Hey I’m about to add my first two fish (clown fish) and will be setting up an automatic feeder.

What type of food do you guys recommend I stick the automatic feeder with? Pellets?
Also, is twice a day feeding a good place to start?

Are you away for long intervals that require an auto feeder? Just seems like a hassle for two fish and there is always a possibility of failure using anything automated. Easy for me to say being retired lol. I also find watching fish eat an important observation that can be helpful with diagnosis should fish health issues become a concern.

I use a mixture of 1mm new life spectrum pellets, seaweed extreme, and pe mysis pellets in an eheim feeder. Been doing this for years and my fish are all fat and happy. Just test the feeder a few times to make sure it's dumping out the correct amount of food and then put a piece of duct tape on the slider so it doesn't move.

I also use the eheim auto feeders, I have 4 of them over 5 years old, they've never given me any issue's.

I like tdo chromoboost pellets. My clowns love them, along with Prime Reef flake.

With an autofeeder like the Eheim (I use them, and some others) you likely need some sort of ring to contain them to get them to sink before floating away over an overflow.

I’ve been using New Life Spectrum sinking pellets with an eheim feeder for years. My feeder is about 6” above the water line and about half of the pellets immediately sink. Most of the other pellets eventually sink if you have turbulent surface water flow. But, as Randy mentioned above, a feeder ring will help prevent floaters from going over the overflow.

About 1/3 of my feedings are on auto with a feeder. The others I do by hand.
