I've got a 75 gallon display tank and right now I've somehow gotten over .2 copper in the display so I can't add any CUC, any good recommendations for someone to pick at my rocks all day?

So far I've got a pair of Oscellaris Clowns, a Pixy Hawkfish and a Pintail Fairy Wrasse.

Have you ever treated the tank with copper or used rocks and sand that were treated with copper?

What copper test are you using?

No to both, I found out tonight that my father in law was forgetting to put the water softener salt in our water (I'm on a well) so I think large amounts of copper were getting through my 4 stage RODI system.

Im using a Hanna tester for copper at the moment. Tested at .29 tonight, I've got cuprisorb in the filter as well.

Water softener media replaces calcium & magnesium with sodium. It does not remove copper.

“somehow gotten over .2 copper in the display”
How did you measure copper?
What does .2 copper mean? Is it .2% or .2ppm?

You need to test your well water. I use ward lab in Nebraska for a cost of $40 you get a complete household water mineral test. Add copper test for $9.

PS: I read your December 20 thread on copper reading and Randy’s comments on the Hanna tester. Did you send of for ICP copper test?

. 2ppm, and not yet on the ICP. Haven't been able to get one.

When I grew Red Ogo in greenhouse cultivation, the dry analysis showed 2ppm of copper even though make up water showed zero, with detection limit of 0.01ppm

Seaweed will absorb & concentrate heavy metals.

Pecan trees require these trace minerals:

“They are iron, copper, zinc, nickel, manganese and boron. In pecan trees 'hidden hunger' occurs when a micronutrient is within the deficient level, but the tree is not showing signs of deficiency, and it is not performing at optimal level”

Hanna tester does not work for testing your display. It gives false readings when testing copper that is actually low or zero.

It is meant for high range copper aka QT.

Not saying you couldn’t have copper but that test is not reliable. You need to use a ICp.

I’ve tried a Foxface, hippo tang and dwarf angels. Every one of them would happily eat algae off the rocks until I started feeding nori. Now they rarely peck at the rocks. Who would have thought that fish could be spoiled rotten?

My Midas Blenny picks off the rocks and is right sized for your tank.

One spot foxface. Algae destroyer for me.

Be forewarned, they have venomous dorsal fins. It's never been an issue but you should know.

I think that is not likely correct. Water softening or not will not allow copper through an ro/di that is functioning properly, and the Hanna is not suitable for this purpose, as noted above. It’s fine for medication levels, but it gives false high values at its low end.
