I think it is a good option, but I do not know if dried seaweed is as good as fresh (including from your own refugium). I would guess not.

Drying out fresh seaweed does alter the organic compounds in it.

As a person who has been to a lot of Asian markets.

You will be hard pressed to find any non dried seaweed.

There are many kinds of seaweed, and the ones that fish will eat (so pretty much all but kombu), rehydrate really well, and are usually not found in the states so are almost always dried.

Not to mention Nori is scraped from rocks and other surfaces so getting it live is not practical. Even at the source of collection you would not find it live/ not dried

The “livest” seaweed you will find will probably be already seasoned and prepared as seaweed salad

I feed dry pellets hourly between the hours of 0830 - 1830. It is a mix of PE Mysis, TDO x-small, small, and a couple of Hikari mixes. Hikari has a Marine Herbivore pellet and I think it comes in a couple of different sizes. I use Medium and it sinks at a reasonable pace so is in the water column. Doesn't fall like a rock ;)

Hourly small portions something of each makes its way out and someone will get something. Over time I've noticed the fish learn the time of the feedings and food type. In short going after what they prefer vs everything so everyone gets something in time. I have a mixed size of fish from a small upside down goby to a 9" gold lined rabbit. All have full bellies.

I do a full nori sheet twice a week rotating between green and purple. Purple is their favorite. Frozen is once or twice a day. No visible signs of algae in my display. While not a Yellow Tang it is in the same Genus (Zebrasoma) - medium sized Scopas.

Interesting that you say that. My two gold lined rabbitfish eat dried kombu, once it softens up. They bite the green surface off and leave a semi transparent membrane, which eventually falls to the sand and is eaten by my urchin

Huh, maybe I’ll try feeding my tangs kombu as well.

I do generally think foxface are much better at eating weird macros than tangs are

Any major grocery chain should have seaweed. Check out the international foods section. Nori for sushi rolls. Just be sure its only roasted. No seasoning or oils

I’ve only tried brands available in Canada but I always come back to New Life Spectrum. My little YT likes the 2mm Algaemax sinking pellets.

Overall, I want the fish to graze the rocks, but then since that hopefully is not enough, eat some added foods that can be provided whether I am around the tank or not. :)

Ya, I do the same and put it in an Eheim feeder so they get 2 minimum feedings per day but it’s usually a lot more.

Unrelated but how are you liking the blades, especially the mix with the freshwater version?

I like the color a lot, and have not even tried to do anything yet except equal percent all channels. I also find the app super simple to use, but have not yet tried anything except a simple ramp up and down.

As I add more stuff, I’ll mess with settings more.

I also like the fact that I do not burn myself by accidentally bumping a light when reaching in the tank. 250 w double ended mh were not so forgiving. lol

Unless the urchin catches hold of it first, in which case it eats the whole thing.

Seaweed Extreme is fantastic. I use the medium size. I've never had luck getting fish going for nori. Granted I'm not super consistent with it-- but they go crazy for Seaweed Extreme every time. I have it on its own auto feeder to make sure my tangs and my moorish idol get their fiber.
