nice vid. they look right at home. even had the bristle star waving hello lol
Yeah, he always gets his food stolen by the fish, too. He curls his arm around it and before he can pull it to his mouth a fish will swoop in and suck it right up lol

I did end up losing two of the blackbar chromis, two b/w chromis, and one of the Kupang damsels. got a partial credit from Blue Zoo. Might use it next week. Trigger was banished to the sump for trying to eat the new fishies, I'm going to trade it in tomorrow if I can, but I'm not particularly into most of the corals that this LFS nearest me gets, and they don't always have fish I want.

Last FTS before adding sand.

Also got some Elos test kits from Coralvue. Gonna see how they compare to my Red Sea kits.

Sand is IN!

Serpent star lost a couple of arms with the KCl overdose... but it's still alive and moving around so it should be ok.
IMG_1958.jpg

Not sure about this chalk bass though... it's been in this same spot since the OD. :/

Look at how clear the water is now! It was the UV sterilizer after all. Not sure what it was killing to make the water so nasty, but it was definitely working!

Nice Damsel collection. Did the Chalk make it? Looks good with sand. On the water clarity image, is that a blue mini-maxi?

The damsel collection is a sore subject. Nearly $300 spent in two orders from Blue Zoo and all I have to show for it is a beat up kole tang. Really displeased with them.

The chalk bass is like it is in the photo. Just sits right there, hasn't moved or eaten or anything.

Yes, I have a nice collection. They'd bleached out a few months ago, was never sure why, then immediately after a large dose of potassium their color surged back, so it seems my algae scrubber had really sucked down potassium levels.

I have a few more on the other side of that rock (and a couple of them that have floated around and are on other rocks across the tank right now) so they're difficult to get photos of :)

You have some nice colored ones. Where to you get yours? Mine do really well in less intense light, yours look under more direct lighting?

Thanks for the image. :)

Most of them are from Reefgardener. Usually gives good deals at frag swaps :)

The side facing the light gets around 160 PAR at midday, the other side gets only indirect light with much less PAR, but I had them in much more direct light before and they still had the same great color. A couple of them are still recovering and gaining color, probably from that potassium dose, it seems that they really need potassium to shine!

Just used my new Elos test kits for the first time.

Calcium - 500ppm+

Alkalinity - 89ppm (5dKH)

Magnesium - 1250-1300ppm (accidentally added another drop at the end of the test, so not sure if it stopped at 7 or 8 drops)

The test kits are easy to use once you actually use them. Just looking at the directions left me like :eek:o_O, but then once I actually started adding the reagents it became clear. With these reagents, there is a stark difference in start and end points, and there is no gradual change between the two - it's either still good or BOOM it's done, which is awesome.

My Hanna alk checker is still showing that I've got ~150ppm for alkalinity, so there is quite the disparity. I think I'm going to take a bit to the LFS with me this weekend to have them check it before I start adding some baking soda to correct it.

HOw's the tank doing? Did the chalk bass make it?
Tank is on cruise control, skimmer is offline, so algae is the tank's friend right now lol. Chalk bass did not make it, but lasted for another couple of weeks since the last post.

Sorry for your losses, not the fun part of this hobby. Any idea why the Bass died, was it bullied? I meant to ask in the last post, but why the switch to a sandbed? are you happy with it? (would love to see pics :), I like your display)
