Big problem whit cyano! HELP

Hi dudes,

A small outbreak of cyano in my tank started to come out almost a month ago, I did not really worry at that moment but today the problem has gotten bigger and I have not managed to control it.

I used Chemiclean liquid (almost the entire bottle), yesterday I left the tank in the dark all day and today in the morning the cyano is still happy.

My normal routine of maintenance is to make a change of 10% of water every 15 days using RODI water.

My parameters have been the same for almost 15 months,

No3: 12ppm
Po4: 0.03ppm

The lights are the same (radion g4 pro) with the same photoperiod as always.

I do not know what to do and I'm desperate because it looks horrible and some corals are being affected because the cyano begins to cover them.

I am currently having a very similar problem. I have one coral completely covered in the stuff but it's attached to a rock that is too big to take out and dip. I have not tried chemicals yet but I just did a water change and I have the lights off today. I am following to see if I can find a solution like you.

Had that problem with my brother in laws 55 gal biger and more frequent water changes fixed it

How old is the tank?

Hi, the tank are 1 year old.

59" x 19,5" x 23,5" (Long x high x wide), to flow I have 2 Vortech MP40 at 60% and 2 Gyre XF230 at 90%, the return pump are Vectra M1 at 60%. My skimer are RO Classic 200 INT

Yes, I remove the cyano with each change of water.

I am currently having a very similar problem. I have one coral completely covered in the stuff but it's attached to a rock that is too big to take out and dip. No, this is impossible. The rock are to big to get out the tank.

But I get out the tank one Hammer to remove Cyano but the cyano come back in this hammer.

I would worry about the phos being low, I get edgy when people run less than about .05!

I had a pretty bad breakout after changing tanks. I taped a bottle brush to the end of a hose so I could scrub and vaccuum at the same time. Got it whittled down with that then hit it with a 2 day blackout and chemiclean. Worked great. Now Im working on getting my nutrient levels where they should be so it doesnt come back!

What would be the levels of nutrients you are looking for?

The ones that I have nowadays have always been the same but I had never had a problem with cyano

Get some small tubing and suck it out

Airline tubing with 3/16" rigid plastic hose on the end and a toothbrush zip tied to the tube is what I use. I siphon it into the filter sock and out of the water column it goes (once I change the filter sock of course)

That's what I did yesterday. I had 10x as much as you. I bought a plastic toilet supply tube and some vinyl hose at Home depot. I ran it to a filter sock in a holder I made on the side of the sump and sucked it all up. It was kinda of messy but it worked. I have very coarse gravel that got stuck in the tube.

I have done this to subsionarlo 4 times and always come back, today I will try again but with a thinner hose.

It's going to come back until you change what is encouraging it to grow. I am working on that part myself right now. I am looking at it as another method of nutrient export.
I have none in the morning and by night mats have formed. A very impressive amount in one day.

Yes, but the problem is that I do not know what originates it, my lights remain the same as always and the movement of the water I think it is enough (the euphyllyas are closed up by so much flow), I do not have dead zones, the nutrients I think are good because it makes I use them a lot.

So, what could be wrong?

You can follow what I am doing to remove it in my 93 cube. Basicallly, I use a turkey baster to get it off the rocks, stir up the sand and have dosed two kinds of beneficial bacteria.

Oh and I increased flow but you already have a bunch of flow.

What bacteria are you using?
