Hey guys, I’m setting up a BioCube 32. I have a bunch of types of media including purigen, matrix, bio balls, floss, and crushed rubble. My question is, how essential is it that all the water flows through the media? I have a bag of matrix that’s just kind of floating in a chamber in my cube, it takes up the majority of the chamber, but a sizeable amount of water can clearly just go around it. Is this a problem for the health of my tank, or am I just over thinking this? Does all the water that flows through my tank have to flow through the media directly to maximize my biological filtration? The same question goes for my purigen.

You should be fine. Perfect world, the media gets all the flow. Imperfect, the benificial bacteria will populate where it can and do what it does.
