BioCube top

Hey everyone,

so i finally decided to take the top off my tank and add a AI prime led light. But i am worried that i will have fish jumping. has anyone made a top for the biocube if so can i see what you have done.

Here's what I did....a canopy. HERE's the DIY.

I'll be re-doing this because of faulty plywood that is failing.

brs makes the mesh screen diy kit not sure how it works for the curved fronts since I have never used one. I have the top still on my biocube. I just did the rapidled retro kit.

I was looking into that. But I'm having an issue with my tank getting really hot so i decided to take this approach in hopes for it too cool off as well as better coral growth and color.

I just did a retro on my 14g nano but I am just getting it up and running. From what I have read if you switch to LEDs it will drop the temp somewhere between 2-4 degrees. Might be worth it if you are just looking at a temp drop

Over the years, I did several mods to my biocube hoods. I had a 75w Metal Halide on top of my 14g Nano cube, but at first I didnt have the lid on. The fixture had a bracket that hung on the back. After several carpet surfers, I opted to modify the hood to make it work. I gutted all of the components from the hood and cut a rectangle on the top of the lid for the halide fixture to fit. The first version worked well for a while, but the heat started to be a problem. I solved that by putting the bigger fans in the hood. That tank grew into a 29g Biocube and i bought a 150w halide to go with it. I opted to leave some of the power compacts and cut the hole in the center of the lid placing the halide on a bracket. I added a couple more fans and cleaned it all up. Worked great for about 2 years, with the only downside being the excess heat and subsequent evaporation. When I moved into my current house, I opted to change over the LEDs and bought a custom LED kit and retrofitted it in a new biocube 29 hood that I found on ebay for 30 bucks. The reduction in heat was amazing and I would do it all over again!! I still have that LED setup in the hood, but now ive upgraded tanks again.

Sorry, don't have a pic handy. I will try and get one at lunch. What I did was buy a piece of egg crate (light defuser) from HD and custom cut it with a drimel. If you take your time you can get it to fix perfect.
