I recently picked up a black leopard wrasse and noticed it flashing or scratching itself against a rock. I worry about ich or velvet as it’s pretty hard to tell considering it’s a juvenile. I have him eating (soaked mysis) with a small inch and a half corner bed of sand while he waits to be introduced into my main display; I’m more or less wondering how I should ramp up copper to treat him for those two. Then once done treat him with prazi for any worms. I don’t have the option of TTM (I lack equipment) so it’ll have to be the normal 30 days of copper then observation. Any advice and should I use anything else for qt? Or will those cover most?

( confident qt’ing with copper but haven’t attempted it on anything copper sensitive… at-least with success)

The wrasse will do,fine as long as you have a bowl of sand deep enough for him to bury. Get the cpoer up to 2.25 with two doses fou to 6,hours apart. Full 30,days. Non calcareous sand.

With the flashing, do start with Prazi at 85% of recommended dosage and apply initial dosage known as an interval lasting for 8 days, do a water change and do one more 8 day dose interval
Use airstone with prazi as it does reduce both oxygen and appetite. If running a skimmer, leave cup off first 24 hrs as skimmer will go nuts from the glycol solution in Prazi
Towards end of second application, do water change and apply coppersafe or copper power (no cupramine ) at level 2.15 - 2.25ppm and monitor with hanna brand Copper test kit and monitor ammonia with reliable test kit

How important is the non calcareous; I’m using this off Amazon as it’s what also have in my display so I just used some I have left. I also think it’s the complete opposite of non calcareous….

Yeah, that's the polar opposite of non calcareous 🤣

@threebuoys may have a recommendation for sand to use here. I have use CaribbSea Naturals freshwater sands for marine QT with copper, this seems to be an inert sand:

Good luck!

That wouldn't work. It has calcium which absorbs copper. Cheap but clean play sand from any lowes, home depot, etc would work. Only need 2 or 3 cups in a tupperware piece..

Just curious, what is “soaked mysids”? You shouldn’t soak food in medication, it needs to be dosed accurately.

Selcom, vitachem and vitamarin M; my bad should’ve specified that a bit better. I also occasionally add garlic for picky eaters.
