I just goy beautiful full bodied and wonderfully colored harem of 5 lyretail anthias from Tonga. They appear very healthy. Ive got them in Qt and of course am debating in my head whether I should medicate (copper power and formalin as they are prone to uronema) with no symptoms or do a 2 week observation period and only treat if something pops up. I know this is controversial but wanted thoughts on this specific case as Tonga is known to bring in some pretty healthy specimens, especially anthias. Thx

Safely give them a Ruby Rally Pro bath and then treat tank with ruby rally pro which is safe for coral and inverts. When it comes to uronema, prevention is key. Uronema can thrive on bacteria, uneaten food, and waste so besides treatment also maintain a clean tank removing waste daily.

Skip the formalin! That only works on external Uronema as seen in seahorses. Anthias develop the internal form (the open lesions that form later are from the internal infection). The internal form just isn’t contagious - it comes from some issue in the supply chain. Multiple fish in the same group may develop symptoms, but they aren’t catching it from each other, they arrived with it.

Thx. Since they are from tong and re otherwise looking good, Would you just observe or take them through 14-30 day copper power?

Thx. They are in QT so is suggestion to perform bath and then 14 days in QT with ruby rally pro? Will this get internal uronema before it possibly manifests externally if at all?

It should as rally is absorbed by the fish

if these went through the standard supply chain (and not direct from Tonga) then these fish have been exposed to any diseases in the importer’s systems. For that reason, I’d give them a standard quarantine.

They came directly from divers to warehouse/retailer who immediately put them in notrofirazone/copper water but yes the system is shared with other tanks and fish but only from Tonga as this was their first shipment as new establishment. There getting another 2 Tonga shipments next week.

They aren’t any different than that dealer’s other fish then, except for differences in collection/handling: no cyanide use, and a shorter supply chain. The disease risk is the same. Some suppliers are better than others in that regard, but I quarantine all fish, even those coming from another public aquarium.
