Hello R2R,
I've had these snails for a while and they are prolific breeders. I always thought they were the praised stomatella snails, but when I googled them I found the results look completely different from the ones I have. These snails don't have the long antennae that stomatellas have and they don't have the long proboscis. Also, their shells are partly covered by their mantles and are located further back on the body compared to stomatellas. Plus, they have clear tails that are speckled with black pigment.
They are all over my tank and sump, they don't appear to be causing problems, they don't touch my Coral and only appear interested in algae. Maybe I'm wrong and they are stomatellas? Some cousin species? I can't find any pictures of these guys on the internet. They kinda look like flatworms but again, they do have small shells. Their faces kinda look like a nudibranch's.
I attached pictures of one little guy from when I pruned my chaeto. The first picture is a Google result for black stomatella to compare.
Thanks for any insight!
