Im setting up a peninsula lagoon tank 96x48x16, lights will be mounted about 14-16" above the tank.

I will have 3x 400w halides running down the center and I will have 4x 36" LED's running down the long sides. I plan to use the LEDs to cover the tank and provide LPS levels of light, then use the halides 5-6 hours at mid day and let the LED's act as supplemental lighting.

Im looking at either the Illumagic Blaze X

Or the RB Photon V2 32

What would you choose?

I have Both the Photon 32 and a Blaze 150X I like them both but I really like the Blaze even though more expensive. Blaze is easer to program being you have control over only 3 Chanels . Each Chanel is a mix .A white/green /red, B a mix of blues , C Blues and UV.
Blaze would be what I would opt for and as a mater of fact getting ready to purchase another Blaze 150

it is limited to 6 different times settings but works just fine for me. I can over drive 2 channels too 140% if I keep the 3rd below 20%. It does not have the fancy stuff like clouds and lightning but to me they are just gimmicks and useless.
It comes with 3 different programs , P1=Acclimation P2=LPS. P3= SPS. you can make adjustments as you see fit to intensity and time. I personaly think there is too much control on all these lights and people get to fiddling to much and keep changing things around. This constant instabilty does more harm then good. If you want to control every little LED individualy every second then these are not for you.

Nice tank! Looks like it will work great for me.

When you say 6 time settings what do you mean?

Im looking to do blues for an hour, full LED for 2 hours, halide supplement blue and white for 6 hours, 2 hours full LED, 1 hour blues. So that should only be 5 time settings and 3 LED spectrum settings.

I won a blazeX from a live sale, or my wife did anyway and while I don't use it, when I was it was a terrific light which I plan to use again someday.

Here is a screen shot of the app and the settings I run. This will give you an idea of what I mean time setting or actually slots. You canajust the times for what ever you want. You can also have the lights dim/ rase to the next setting or just go right into each setting . To the far right of each time slot an icon slide or step

Reef breeders hands down for me. If anything goes wrong or you have a question Logan will answer you asap and do what ever he can to help. He even offered to help me get parts for a nano light I didn’t even buy from him. You won’t beat their customer service. The lights are high quality, 6 channels of tuning adjustable every hour, ramps up/down every 6 mins. Don’t listen to people complain about programming it either. I would ask those people why they are changing their lighting so often that it becomes a pain?

Thermans tank being one of the nicest in the world imo is a very strong endorsement for photons since it’s what he used. Also battlecorals uses them. Although I’m sure both would produce nice tanks.

Battle corals and coral euphoria both use them as well. Adam uses them more heavily than Abe I believe but those are still their main led brand. I know a few other big names do to I’m just blanking right now. Before the prices went up in Canada 50%+ I don’t think you could have found a better light for even remotely close to the price here.

Aye it’s impossible to argue with the results. Especially when Adam from battlecorals says this in the never ending led/t5/mh debate

Imo really though long as the light has coverage and enough PAR you desire we overall fuss way too much on lighting when it’s the chemistry that makes or breaks the system.
