Blue/red leg crabs

How long should they live. I got 16 and ive lost 4 in the past couple weeks.

Well i have algae on the back wall and i had a bunch on the rocks also some diatoms but i kicked that up and am dealing with a bacteria bloom.

They typically live 1 to 2 years. A molt can look like a carcass but there’ll be no “meat” attached. A true hermit crab carcass would still have all the “meat” on it, including the tail portion it uses to hold its shell. Can you post an image?

Well i have algae on the back wall and i had a bunch on the rocks also some diatoms but i kicked that up and am dealing with a bacteria bloom.
So no algae whatsoever on the rocks? Hermit crabs are omnivores so they’ll eat meat too. They’ll even eat sinking pellets. The micro algae on the glass doesn’t do the hermits any good unfortunately. Now snails? They love the stuff!

Saddly we already got rid of the body. I hope we didnt mistake that

These rocks used to have a lot of brown. I kicked it all up before doing a water change and now its in a bloom. I got a protein skimmer now running and have done another big water change this morning

You need to feed them for sure or take them back to where you bought them until your tank matures a bunch. They have nothing to eat. Put some sinking fish pellets or pc of Nori and see if they eat some.

This is great advice. You could also use frozen food if you have it. Pieces of fish, crab, mussel etc will work provided you cut them up finely or use a blender to chop them.
