Terrible brook outbreak ( from my diagnosis) wiped out my tank ‘ I have a Waterbox 130.4 mixed reef and it took out 9 fish ! Including my yellow tang , hippo , clowns , wrasses , sleeper head .. etc .

I have 2 surviving fish . My 6 year old purple tang and my year old yellow watchman . They have been unfazed somehow showing 0 signs .

My question,, I plumbed in a nice UV sterilizer and have the flow through it nice and slow .

Can I leave these last 2 survivors in the display while I let it fallow for 3 months before adding new fish ?? Thank you guys in advance .

Attached you can see a video of a clown who has the most clear signs of it since he was dark . And who passed the next day .

I am very worried I will add fish in 3 months and they immediately die like the last few from this sickness … this is the type of thing that makes me want to pack up my tank and quit .. I want this to go away and have happy healthy fish again .

It is pretty rare for Brooklynella to wipe out most fish in a tank, it is often confined to just wild caught clownfish, royal grammas and a few other species. However, the picture does show a lot of mucus on the clown, so that would be my diagnosis.

Brooklynella has not resting stage, so it does not need a long fallow period. However, the purple tang and goby could be carriers, and might reinfect new fish coming in.

Did the purple tang show any symptoms?

Agree with Jay as this is past brook and may be bacterial especially seeing a few raised scales in one of the pics shown.

It is pretty rare for Brooklynella to wipe out most fish in a tank, it is often confined to just wild caught clownfish, royal grammas and a few other species. However, the picture does show a lot of mucus on the clown, so that would be my diagnosis.

Brooklynella has not resting stage, so it does not need a long fallow period. However, the purple tang and goby could be carriers, and might reinfect new fish coming in.

Yes , the purple tang had cloudy eyes with white dots all over them , and dots on the edge of his fins .

Thinking it was flukes that’s attacking and killing the fish so fast , I turned off UV and dosed prazipro . In that week of no UV is when it wiped everything .. although purple looks great now .

Unsure of what to do next !

I should add , this is what happened to my new comers . Yellow showed a singular white spec on him I assumed it was a piece of sand . Dead the following morning .

The hippo immediately was covered in these blobs , dead the next morning .

the sleeper head was flipping and flopping all over the place , breathing heavy then died .

Have not been able to add a fish successfully in my tank in months .

I think there may have been multiple issues going on. That makes any definitive single diagnosis impossible. The mucus on the clownfish is probably Brook, but late stage ich can cause that. The hepatus tang has what looks like ich and/or fluke damage. The red lesion on the goby isn't any of those things.

Generally, flukes kill slowly - a fish or two each week.

Fish that die overnight with few symptoms (assuming water quality is good) usually end up having Amyloodinium (velvet).

Velvet always causes rapid breathing - greater than 120 gill beats per minute. If you don’t see that, it isn’t velvet.

What do I do ?

Should I just leave them in the display and turn the uv on and wait the 90 days to be safe ?

The clown and the sleeper head both were breathing incredibly fast before they went , the hippo and yellow went while I was sleeping so I am unsure .

Or should I dose something then do uv and start the 3 month timer ?

That’s pretty rare to see. Given the chance that there are multiple diseases here, a true fishless fallow period of 60 days would be best. Trouble is of course, you can’t do that with survivors unless you take them out and treat them.

I have a 10gal QT , the survivors look amazing and are eating great also .

Problem is I can’t put a 6” purple in a 10g .

i just finished up the 3rd week of prazipro . And flukes have been eradicated .

Would it be safe to dose rally pro for 10 days or so , to eradicate the brook and bacterial issue if it’s that .

Then flick the uv on and let it sit for 60 days minimum ?

Or would the only way to fix this issue be to remove these last 2 fish and fallow .

Rally Pro is safe for display tanks, but that’s because it is very mild. Because of that, I don’t rely on it to remove 100% of disease as any sort of a “clearing” treatment.

I have nowhere to put this big purple , and worried I will further stress him into sickness moving him out of his tank .

Often, there are no easy solutions. I just don’t rely on rally pro for much, but other people do.

I was able to get a 40gal QT setup .
New plan will be to take all the fish out and house them in the QT with copper .

I will Let the tank fallow for 60 days

my question tho , should I still dose the rally in the fishless display while it’s in fallow .

And will 60 days be sufficient?

I don't think you need to dose the fallow tank with rally pro, but it wouldn't hurt.
