Hey all so just got home a bit ago and took look at tank and one head of my torches looks like it’s having issues. At first it had a couple strands on long brown string which I know can be expelled food so wasn’t too concerned but now it doesn’t appear to be like that. I am hoping that was all it was and I’m just paranoid but I did have 1 hammer have bjd in the past. I have some pics below it’s hard with the blue light on. Coral has been in place for about 2 months now and has looked like it’s in the process of splitting. 2 heads right now but the one is completely fine while the other one that appears to be splitting is the one with the issues. All other coral/torches look fine. Parameters. Alk 9.3 calcium 440 magnesium 1380. Nitrate and phosphate low 0-1, 0-.20

Can’t really tell under blue lights. Pictures under whites will really help. They do get very grumpy when splitting so that is possible. If you can take it out and it has that smell, since you had bjd before you should know that smell, cut that head off and get it out of the tank. Since you had bjd before I hope you have Cipro on hand, if so and bjd is confirmed dose the tank to save your other euphyllia.

I will get some pics under white lights. I don’t really know the smell as it wasn’t 100% confirmed earlier but I assumed it was it deteriorated a good amount. I do not have cipro on hand as it wasn’t so bad I couldn’t save the coral and unfortunately there was nothing I could do. Best I could do on pics as of now.

Also my one torch below this torch has a little infestation of euphyllia flatworms that I can see and I just noticed it today. About a month ago it had the same issues. Dipped all torches only came off one. So will dip that one tmr and gonna look at a new wrasse to help eat them since my livestock has been a pain to start this tank. Should I go ahead and dip all torches??

Definitely dip, sixline wrasses are great for flatworms. I think these torches have been in decline for some time, maybe before you purchased them. They have almost no flesh bands. If you have iodine on hand I would dip them as well. If bjd is going on, the smell is awful, you need to treat with Cipro ASAP. Check your medicine cabinet and with friends and family. It’s 500mg per 20g with carbon removed and skimmer off for 7-10 days followed by a water change. If you have a good relationship with your veterinarian explain your situation and you could pick some up tomorrow. If not you could order from here but by the time it gets there it might be too late. They like moderate variable flow and light. Get your phosphate at .05-.1 and nitrates to 10-15. My torches really thrive with magnesium at 1400 or a little higher. Hopefully it’s just splitting but they need some TLC.

Thanks for the feedback. I hear
Sixline wrasses are great too but can be aggressive especially with some fish added after which I know I will be adding eventually. I think my flow has been a bit messed up and is on the lower side right now. Wave makers needed a big cleaning and I think the flow was a bit messed up so I might change some things there. I will bump my magnesium up a bit as I haven’t added some in quite some time. Good news is just check on torch and tentacles are back out flowing so that is a good first sign. Tmr I will look at increasing flow and maybe a new wrasse but at is full so gonna be a bit difficult. All my torches have a similar flesh band with this one probably being the best one. But will keep a close eye on him and the rest in next few days
