Pics explain it all. I'm feeling pretty gypped here.

I wish I would have bought more of the old stuff because now you pay the same price for half as much. Density doesn't matter because the tsp per gallon instructions are still the same.

Weird. So assuming the new one (left) is pharmaceutical grade calcium hydroxide, weighing in at 4lbs, what is the filler in the larger container that made up half the volume but only an extra .5lb?

Have you weighed it to see if its 4 lbs, could just get compacted in the soft bag and fluff up in the volume of a hard container maybe

There's absolutely zero ways you can convince me that the material differs so much (through compaction or the density) that you get 2/3 less than the previous product offered. Kinda sad really, but it makes sense. Lets just hope this is an actual mistake instead of a scam.

Hey @silvernblackr35
I looked into this a little more with our product team (Zack, who you may have seen here on the forums from time to time). When we brought in the new pharma grade kalkwasser we also were developing some new packaging for our BRS brand of additives. When that packaging was printed and eventually used to package the new kalk, the instructions remained the same as the old non-pharma product. In reality, the new pharma grade kalk is roughly twice as dense as the older product, so the instructions should list a max saturation of about 1 1/4 teaspoons rather than 2 teaspoons. We have new packaging on the way to resolve this. That said, the perception that you're getting much less than advertised is our mistake. Had the mixing instructions reflected the correct amount, you probably wouldn't have those concerns. For what it's worth, I did also weigh a few packages in our warehouse and they were all spot on at 4 lbs. Hopefully that clears things up a bit, but feel free to send us a reply or PM if you have any questions at all :)

Side note- (For those who have been using the 2 tsp mixing instructions with the newer kalk) there is only so much kalk that you can dissolve into a single gallon of water, so even if you were to add too much, it would simply settle out at the bottom rather than increase the water's potency.

I have been using Mrs. Wages for many years and it works very well. You can order it thru Walmart and have it shipped to the store. Much cheaper than BRS.

Maybe true, but this thread didn’t ask “where do I get pickling lime?” Rather, it was a question to @BRS about their specific product.

Is Mrs wages more like the consistency of the old BRS kalk?

More or less, yes. The old stuff was a food grade product rather than made from pharma grade like we have now. We actually did a pretty in depth test/video on various calcium hydroxide product including Mrs. Wages, our pharma grade kalk, and some others that you might find interesting.

So when I finish my Mrs. Wages is gone, I will go with BRS because the cost is worth the purity imo.
