While doing a water change my urchin took a tumble of the wall and fell right into the coral. The poor thing looks like it had a bruise on half its body with broken pins. It’s putting its little tentacles out and moving but the bruise looks horrible. Will it be okay?

It looks ok.

Only time will tell. My Urchin bounces between tanks. If provided with a food source and supplanted with nori strips, and decent water chemistry most Urchins do fine.

It’s moving around but I noticed the area is now black and brown. Still eating and still covering itself and I don’t see a break in the shell. No spines are dropped but it looks gnarly. I really don’t want to lose him.

I have this bad feeling this little guy is getting worse. His mouth looks sunken in and its anus is pushing out. It has plenty of food source on the rock scape. Any advice??

I’m pretty sure he has passed on. All needles have been dropped and no tentacles are protruding. He hadn’t moved either all night either.

yes, that's not going to make it. I'd take it out before it pollutes the tank.

pending your ritual, if you leave it outdoors for a week, the insects will take care of the inside and you can shellac him if you were keen on keeping the shell. I had one like that that came in on live rock the size of a pencil erasure. grew quickly to about 2" or so then just died. I had a halloween which is the coolest looking of them but when it arrived there was no water in the bag from the spines piercing. it survived for about a month. I have a tuxedo in there now doing great. The hardiest is the pencils but they really don't move around much. it happens.

My biggest fear is being pricked my LFS has them and I might try to get one. I’m pretty heartbroken he was a great dude and kept my algea in check.
