This was a bubble tip with tentacles out when we first got it about 3 months ago. We added a naked cinnamon clown and he is obsessed so we thought when the tentacles started shortening or disappearing it was just to annoyed by the clown. We moved the bta from the 90 gal that has been established for a year to a 40 gal that has been running for a shorter time but should be good for anemones. He looked even worse and sad after a week so we put him back in the 90. We have adjusted lights and parameters are all good. We check them weekly to biweekly but it still just looks like a mushroom but otherwise healthy. We also have other anemones that the clown hosts and they look fine. I’ve read that I may need to try cipro for it but I’m just not sure. I can’t find anything or anyone that has experienced this so I’m wondering what route I should take to save him. Any advise would be appreciated

This is a condylactus anemone and youre lucky clown has taken to it. This is a Florida species and i hope it was not sold as a bubble tip. These go for around $10-$18

Tough to see under blue lights. When BTAs close up, it is a sign of a few different issues. Is there enough light? Did the anemone’s pedal disk get damaged when you moved it? Is there good water flow around the anemone?

I wouldn’t dose the tank with cipro.

If BTA, main reason they close up is immature tank (less than 4 months old, too little light and /or water flow), high phosphates and improper acclimation

I don’t think it did. It was looking like this before I moved it. It was a little pretty green bubble tip before the clown took to it. That’s why I thought it was just annoyed. Tried different lighting and it remains the same so I have no clue what’s going on. I’ve never seen one act this way

I have watched it, and it will close up even without the tentacles. It acts normal it just has no legs lol the tank has been established for a year and it may be the lighting or the water flow, but those have been adjusted multiple times and left for a while to try to get it to bring out it’s tentacles and nothing helps. I guess I’ll just keep watching him and see what happens otherwise he seems fine. Just thought it was strange.

what do you mean by he looks like a mushroom and has shorten to no tentacles but is healthy ?
What you’re describing is a unhealthy anemone that’s withering away

I didn’t mean like healthy and thriving. I mean like he’s still hanging in there and is attached. I know there’s something going on with it. I just can’t figure out what it is.

Some days it looks better like yesterday and some days it looks worse. I’ve tried everything I know to do, adjusting lights and making sure levels are where they need to be with the water and flow and nothing has worked that’s why I’m on here asking before I try any meds to see if anyone else has experienced this because I can not find anything about it. Only thing I found that is somewhat close to what this anemone is doing says it may be a bacterial infection. I didn’t want to give it something it didn’t need because I’m trying to save it before it does completely withers away…not as dumb as I sound. Just not good with words apparently
