Hello, I been having my rainbow BTA for quite some times now, since I had it. It has never split, now last night when we turned off our lights it was still intact, but in the morning when I went to go check out the tank and turn on the lights there was two! I always feed them everyday, but because one of my family member has been really sick and got a surgery I was out for two days and I wasn’t able to feed them and when I can back in the morning it has split. Can it be that the anemone thought there isn’t enough food and that’s why it did that for survival reasons? Also my water perimeters are stable always the same in the safe zone. I have included a before and after picture of my anemone

I feed my anemone very infrequently, I've had it 3-4years now, it split on its own about 6 month's ago.
After researching more into causes, it's either really happy that it will want to produce more, or they can split due to being unhappy/ stress.
I'm still slightly Clueless but I would not recommend feeding every day, these guys are photosynthetic so they produce Thier own food, I would suggest feed every couple of weeks as a treat.
Just my thoughts

I feed the leftover mysis shrimp from my fish after I am done and there’s almost nothing I give that to them, i never over do it to the point that it spits it out or what ppl call it “making it poop” that’s why I was so curious on why it split

Really? Even if it’s a little bit almost to nothing? I give them the leftovers of mysis shrimp that my fish won’t eat anymore… it has never spit it out or poop… that’s why I was so concerned

Then it could also be happy, anemones have Thier own personality, they can walk around to adjust to your aquarium lights/flow and will figure out best possible position to live, I would not consider it a bad thing :)
When you say you feed every day It was presumption that you purposely fed (reef roids or other)

Left over/mini scraps of mysis is minimal and yes, should not be a problem

I started with 2 and have 11 now. I've never directly fed them. Largest is about 12" or so.

Yea, I feed them the leftover from my clownfishes and dory :) I just do it to not throw away the food, but it’s almost to nothing. But they are used to at least getting something small so I just thought me not giving them nothing for two days they had split up for survival instincts

At first I wasn’t, but I always have a bit leftover from my fish frozen food and I just through that instead throwing it away just give it to them. But I’m probably going to cut down as just as a treat… once a week when the fishes don’t eat much than what they normally do :smiling-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I have heard that too, but other people say that it’s when they are happy and big enough

Ohhh wow it’s big! And it also has a bit of white too, I didn’t know that anemones have white spots like mine. Love your tank too!

It came bleached, very white, I did not think it would survive, it found a location in a cave, I'm unsure how long it took to come out but it started by showing a few fingers out of cave (my lights was very low) as I initially thought they may be to high. So after a couple of months it came out, walked around, clowns hosted it then it spilt, one half has gone back to cave, other half on top of rocks lol :)

I need to have that type of experience, I do have somewhat but I still feel like I’m still missing a lot of info. Meaning that if someone gives me something like that I would probably kill it instead of trying to make it better

Omg, you have so many! I love it!!! I want to have just pure anemone but the sad thing with that they produce a chemical that other anemone families can die….. but what lights you have? And do you dose anything???? I want to learn more about dosing! So beautiful! I have a mini laffy taffy goniopora and I can’t wait for it to grow so the colors can be more vibrant!!! I also have a jack o lantern leptoseris!! And I can see the lepto. Growing onto the frag rack I have it on!!! :face-with-hand-over-mouth:

Sorry for late reply, but I have a 25 gallon tank, and I just got into looking at the rock flower anemone and you just got me wanting one lol! Especially since I don’t have nothing on my floor! I’m thinking of getting one soon when I find the right one lol
