Hydrogen peroxide. I had the same problem and it solved it. Bubble algae is the herpes of a reef tank.

The zoa's do well and bounce back in a week. do a search. I haven't had a problem since the H2O2. Also works on bryopsis

search on how to use it. I USED IT 50/50 and used a spay bottle for two minutes. rinsed it in saltwater when I was doing my water change. Bulkreefsupply has a video on it. It worked. I was banging my head against the wall with bubble algae with a touch of bryopsis. Took care of both.

I just want non trolls that want things that works. Skeptics are those who haven't thought out of the box. H2O2 worked for me . Look it up. Use it or don't, but it works. Remove as much as you can and rip it all off -OUT OF THE TANK. Rinse it off with saltwater. And then spray it.

It grows without a soul. This is a way to take it out.

Bryopsis and bubble alage dissolved. For me. Try it.

Caveat... Run an over powered UV sterilizer- worth it's wait in gold.

Bubble Algae comes in as a hitchhiker and quickly spreads. Definitely not caused by rust in your reactor.

If it's just on the one frag plug I would try to scrape it off outside of the tank. It spreads very easily though.

Ohhh to the original post it was most likely introduced, bubble algea is very common on frag plugs I tend not to add any frag plugs because of this, when one pore is introduced unless you actually remove the area and make sure no bubbles pop when removing them there’s a big chance it will just keep spreading, ive had luck in the past with emeralds but it took 1 out of 4 tries to find one that would actually eat it i have read of a new product in tank and easy to use to rid of this pest algae it’s called Vibrant.

Don’t know I this was for me I wasn’t really trolling just giving advice to the OP Vibrant it’s an actual product by UWC with good results to many users here for bubble and other pest algae’s

The bubble themselves are filled with spores so popping one means it will pop up a few weeks later somewhere else

This has been debunked many times over, but still a common misconception. Emeralds and Foxfaces have been proven to eliminate BA, and it is not logical to think they eat it without popping bubbles.

Back to the OP, Vibrant works very well, and you do not have to remove your coral or rock from the tank to treat it as you do with H2O2. You still have to do some manual husbandry in the tank, but it is very effective.

sounds a manual hard wrok. I hate to touch my aquascape it very difficult to set again for me may disturb a lot of corals. I hate algae issues.
Dont know from where it came but currently i dnt see it anywhere i remove it from the frags.

No matter what it is a manual process to some degree. You have to completely tear out your aquascape if it spreads using H2O2, so dosing Vibrant and just doing some picking of the spores that remain is the less intrusive option.

Didn’t know this was a myth but in this hobby you never know, I could see your point that they pop them to consume them but they continue grazin so even if it attempts to comeback im sure smaller BA will be eaten before you even see it, I believe like some other algea I think they need to reach a certain age or size to reproduce or create spores within their bubbles, I can tell you this much I attempted to remove 3-4 from a plug tiny ones and one popped 3-4 months later it got a bit intense but I luckily found an emerald that would eat them but he died on me. Luckily we have i tank products I’ve read good things about Vibrant I’m scare it might come back BA is so freaking common now

From my experience and what I read male emeralds do a better job and grazin algea of rocks in general not just BA but they are hit or miss, I Will add to the myth that males do eat it since I got 3 females that would eat around them not even attempt, the male I got was roughly twice the size as the other 3 females also his claws were also absurdly bigger than them he was a bulldozer eating 24/7 the females would hide most of the day, in regards to the red one I’ve seen them as well light red almost pink emeralds but thought Petco had them label wrong the dude at the store sounded confident it’s also an emerald. The image below is not an emerald but all crabs follow the same when it comes to sexing them females have a solid shell under for their eggs males have it as well but also have a shaft in the middle

But just an FYI it’s all up to the animals it self it’s not 100% guarantee that they will eat it since my friend had an infestation and got a Foxface that would not touch it
