Dosing Containers
  • 4 x 4.8l
  • 1 x 25l (rodi with float valve max 23l)
The benefits to running all that cable is these large containers (180 meters of cable was laid underground LOL). Should require little effort to keep these topped off. Have a spare 1500lph pump (thought that wud work for UV) Gonna throw it into kalk container and use it as mixer. Be very simple, add enough for fully saturated kalk (2tbsp) and let mix for x. then pump off and dose, to refill turn valve to top off rodi and add 2 tbsp and pump to mix. clean out every whip :)

Happy with this mini project.

Rebalancing for AWC High Level.
So when all pumps is off (inc skimmer reactor fuge). This is how high sump went to originally. Removed some water (with awc pump) and set high level. Turned everything back on, tank was back to self within a minute. And then turned all off to recheck.

Much happier with that water level. Gives me wiggle for emergencies.

Very cool. I would worry about the instruments stored in the hood rusting over time.

There plastic tools. But yeah there’s certain things that might not work out in this build. Theory good, in practice will find out.

Carbon Media
So 17 tbsp recommended. 16tbsp is a cup. So 1 cup of carbon is what I’ll just be using for handiness. My reactor is just humongous for this, especially as can’t tumble it. So change of plans, back to original (pre buying bumblebee):
  • Mini reactor in fuge will become fluidised sand bed
  • Carbon will now be media bag in chamber 3
  • Reactor will be bio pellet reactor as there tumble city and plenty room for the experiment.
This actually makes maintenance far superior. As the reactors will require very little and carbon bag be swapped out every 4 weeks. (Consumption will be around 1.5kg pa)

When using mini reactor as a fluidised sand bed. This will aid removal of both ammonia and nitrite from my aquarium.

Bio-pellet Reactor
Let’s start small. Recommended 2cups. Started with 1/4 cup. 4-8 weeks lead time before kick in...
1/4 cup approx inch when pump off. So will use the 1inch to 1/4 cup rule to maintain this as time goes on.

Refugium
Aquaforest Life Source, Fiji Pink Sand in Fluidised Sand Bed Reactor (sand from nano tank to help with diversity), Special Grade on top (new). Seachem matrix (from nano too) scattered on top. Lights running 10pm to 10am, Chaeto to be added next thursday, with copes.

Fluidised Sand Bed

Made few errors so bit higher than wanted because the mud/sand/matrix amalgamated lol school boy and then plowed on, so just ended up putting new sand on top to seal it. Currently my full tank is clouded over, hope it clears soon, put a sock in to help. Photo actually makes it look better, I wish it looked like that!

Crystal Clear
Tank crystal clear, will keep the sock in now and just replace when overflowing. But hopefully roller ain’t long away. Added a test crab and snail from nano.

Was at the in-laws...
Was just setting this up in the in-laws. 8mile from house. Clicked the pre water change by mistake (turns majority equipment off).

Got this message in about 5 secs of pushing it. Can’t believe it actually turned everything off remotely. Clicked other button and got the next text. How crazy, Great test. Lol

Delighted I am. Can turn it to one click too and routine it. All have to do make routine is basically add waits in between and attach to button w1 w5 w5 w1 etc.
But not sure. Think I’ll step through it as be doing maintenance during this process anyway. But will prob have both options. Never know what future holds. Tank will dictate.

Kalk Stirrer
Holds 6 us gallons. So will add 1/4cup kalkwasser and let mix with a 200lph pump I had on wifi timer plug. Will clean her out every whip. Tube a good inch off bottom. This should hold 7dkh of alk and is around my weekly evap. Therefore my max kalk dose will be 1dkh per day.

May Day
Promised the kids fish and wanted to test tank with mollies... so I’ve acclimated mollies plenty of ways - over days, hours, drop in. I like to drip acclimate now just over an hour or two. Just put an airstone in just in case I run it longer.

Quarantine - Spongebob theme, those 3 decorations and mollies to keep it cycled. 4 for £9

Display - somehow I got pair sailfins for £6.99.

Sure long way to go with my fish stock, I’m testing and have quarantine to test out too. All be well. Freshwater such a cheap hobby. I have hundred quid in 3 Bangaiis coming lol.

Chaeto Added
Reef Buddy harvested for me, very clean and prob not far off how much this will hold. Look forward to seeing how it goes. Added the remaining matrix from nano tank, new media in there which is sintered glass which is perfect media for Medicated QT Tank. Was in the office (first time in months) and in my drawer was this wee grow light I used for growing an avocado at work lol. May as well put to use. USB so same plug.

Bangaii Cardinals
First saltwater fish added, aqua-cultured and was in holding tank for 6 weeks. Mollies seem happy so was happy to add. Mollies staying in tank until they need removed or if QT needs them for example.

Bumblebee Stock List
This is what tickles me, is there others yes. I like anthias, I like tangs, I like jawfish, but I dont think they will work or like tangs I would have to sacrifice too much. Is there room for a tank upgrade of course. But lets not think like that.
I am running HIGH in HIGH out. I have fuge, skimmer, filter roller, substantial biomedia, biopellet reactor, fluidised sand bed, AWC, UV and plan to add OZONE. I believe I will be able to run heavy stocked. Will I get all these in my tank NOT A CHANCE. 1/2 flags will probably be my best outcome. Fish behaviours will dictate IE how many wrasses will play ball. Will I be able to keep a Mandarin/Copperband long term. I will wait to tank is ready and give it my all (copperbands and mandarins are captive breed now too). Could others make cut - OF COURSE. Midas blenny? Cud be tickled surely. Dozen fish Id say...
1620382910102.png

Next fish will be clowns, gramma, firefish, lawnmower blenny for definite. But for now its get doser, filter roller up and running and get elements/nutrients/routine stable. Merge tanks and lights on and prep QT for these next fish. Next stock in tank will be CUC.

Filter Roller

1620663585362.png

Bubble Magus ARF-S installed, could of went M maybe. but this is the clarisea sk3000 size so plenty. Feel like i cud also buy a roll of the clarisea 40m roll, would just need the extension arms to allow it to fit. Might be worth considering down line. Really nice job and plenty room in chamber 0.
20 micron roll - be interested to see how it plays out. Should last lifetime with current stocking Id like to think after it cycles tank. There is the secret bypass too :) to find a balance.
