Hello,
I just tested calcium with red sea calcium test kit
And got result of 500
I heard I have to get around 415-425 for soft corals
How to supposed to drop the calcium level?
And what is going to happen if I maintain high calcium?

Thank you

Are you dosing anything?
Could it be test error? Did you test twice to verify?
I use the same test kit, usually good results.
Soft corals are pretty forgiving.

And what salt? Some salts start with a low calcium content some start with a high calcium content so in some cases if your calcium is depleted and you dose and then you do a water change and the calcium is high in your salt there’s your issue.

It has a very high calcium content. So if you’re dosing anything, it just adds to the Calcium in the salt.

I am weening myself off that stuff. Calcium of 500 short term isnt really all that much of an issue.

The problem I have with that salt, and I'm not saying it bad, is if you don't have coral colonie of LPS or SPS there's really no point. The KH level of that stuff is a pain when aclimating corals to the system because most places keep the KH around 8 or 10. WIth an established tank I can see it working cause the parameters arent going to stay that high when you mix it in.

I've been mixing mixing in a 5 gallon bucket 1 cup of Red Sea Blue to 1.5 cups Coral Pro. Gives me a KH around 10.5. My Calcium mixes around 430-440ish.

The other thing is you have to keep higher nutrients with that salt because of the KH. If you have nothing to consume it its just an algae battle.
