i have an outer orbit 2x150 mh with 4x50 t5 acentics. think i could support any type of sps , or am i crazy? the light is about 4 inches away from water. if i get them high enough will they survive , or will i burn them up. any feed back would be awesome.

Make sure you get a quality bulb like a Phoenix 14k and place them up high in the tank directly under each light. Some SPS like true undata, sunset and pokerstar grow much better for me under 150w halides.

you can definitely grow sps with your lights. some pieces might have to be placed higher than others. in my experience, only bigger colonies have problems with the lower wattage halides. especially if you place them too high. some parts of your base and branches will be shaded.

if youre thinking of upgrading, just swap out the ballast and bulb holders for 250w pieces. thats what i did with my outer orbit. it was a piece of cake.

on my frag tank 60"x24"Wx12"H, I use 2 -150w DE Reeflux and primarily grow SPS with no problems at all.

sweet , i have a 28 gallon nano that still has my fish in it that i need to transfer to the ew tank in due time , i am thinking of using that as a rare frag grow out tank. it has a 150 de mh . i tried sps in the nano with bad results , but i think that was due to poor water quality.
