Candy Cane and flow

Can the Candy Cane Coral acclimate to flow? I’m having trouble with my Candy Cane Coral and flow. Around two weeks I installed the IceCap 1k gyre. The Frogspawn, Acans and GPS love it but no matter where I place the Candy Cane or how much I reduce the flow the Candy Cane is never happy. Yesterday I moved it to a high location that seems to be low flow but it’s in a high light area so I’m not sure if it will like the higher light. I have the alternating gyre at -10 and +10 and the other flows are at there lowest level of +20.

This was the day before installing the gyre.

This was when I first noticed damage to the flesh. Two days after installing the gyre.

These two pictures are of the new location higher up in the tank in lower flow but higher light. You can see in the first picture the receding flesh and the second picture you can see a tear in the flesh.

My 93 cube has over 3000gph of flow and I have two pretty good sized colonies of Candy Cane. They are producing new heads.

So, I am going to say YES. They sure can get used to a lot of flow.

Mine like a pulsed high flow. How close are they to the actual powerhead?

Okay, in my experience with cauastraea is if the flow is to great, they will usually poylp retract. Don't see that in your pictures. Overall they look very healthy and happy.

I think candy canes can adjust to flow and light somewhat, but they will tell you pretty quick what they like. I had my colony high up in high flow. It was fine, looked good.

I dropped it to low flow and bottom of tank and it really took off. Towards the top looked good, but on the bottom I can see it actually feeding where I could not see it on top.

That is a great looking colonie. How long did it take to get to that size.

It really seems like it is the flow. Right after the gyre was installed it started to swivel up the tissue started to recede and the tentacles don’t come out at night like they would. Parameters and lights have not changed, just the flow.

There's more in my tank. I've fragged it numerous times.

Took the coral out of the water to get a better look at the tissue that is receding. I wonder whether the tissue tearing where the two red circles are is because of stress from the flow or normal process of the polyps becoming there own instead of being connected like they were when the initial head started to divide? The two red lines indicate how much the tissue had receded.

Water Parameters are 1.026, 420, 1380, 9

Same thing happened to me. What I did to fix it is have one gyre on alternating gyre, and once that finished once cycle, make the other one do the same, you won’t get as much rapid changes in flow that rip the flesh. Also try to turn the percentage of how hard the flow is moving, I have 2 on my 120 and 10% is almost too much flow

I made another post since it seemed like this one was dead. But long story short it kept not getting better so I did a iodine dip on Sunday 5/12 and it’s doing much better I would even say better then before it went downhill. To me it seems puffier. I actually upped the flow and it’s perfectly fine with the higher flow.

Ive noticed mine will go through periods of being big and puffy and then a few days it might close up alot the go back to normal. Sometimes corals just do stuff for no reason. I have mine in medium flow and they are alot happier than when they were in low flow.
