So it's been almost 3 week since I got my saltwater tank. It was a Craigslist buy so it came with all the good stuff and bad. My fish, my corals and most my rock are in a 30gallon QT tank till I get their final home done. Since everything is going good I was wondering if there was anything I can do for my poor little abuses Candy cane.

Look at this sad little thing... Is there anything I can do to help rebuild him or at least help him out.

Aside from providing the coral with the proper lighting and flow, there's really not much you can do except wait. You could try feeding the heads small bits of shrimp or perhaps small pellets, but there's no guaranty they'll except it. Your parameters need to be in line as well, but this was kind of a given. Will it start to rebuild or will it just stay the same even with everything healthy?

It looks like it still has life in it. My candy cane has been incredibly hardy and recovered from various injuries. Lost a head to a nearby chalice... the crabs pulled it off the rock, but it healed up with no problem. I think it'll bounce back. Just keep things stable and you'll be good to go.

I did feed it a little tiny tiny piece of shrimp and it gobbled it right up so fingers crossed.

Give it time. It will happen. It should revive faster versus growing becasue it already has half the job done, which is creating the calcium for the skeleton.

Awesome! It's looking happy & healthy. Sometimes it's terrible to watch our corals die back. But it is really satisfying to watch them recover from the brink of death. I have a bubble coral that all but dissapeared, no signs of life, but I left in in my tank, and 6 months later it has 6 new polyps! So much fun to see the regeneration!

Thanks for the follow up! Great news!

Yeah its so awesome. This was a rescue tank and my first saltwater. I sadly lost the big leather coral but I knew it was going to happen so its nice to see this doing good.

Looking good, Great job!

I had a candy cane head that got broken off when I was cleaning that I sort of forgot about as I finished cleaning the tank. About a month later, I found it, and it was shriveled down to nothing. It is slowly coming back now that I have it in light and flow, but I am hoping I am as successful as you have been!

When certain corals die, don't they essentially poison the tank? I always want to leave mine just in case but am afraid they'll kill everything lol
