Got home from practice and checked on tank everything was fine, did homework looked before I went to bed. Candy Cane coral has completely melted along with another tiny candy cane on opposite sides of the tank. I Don’t know what could have caused this issue as parameters are all normal. There was no coral warfare visible or going on anywhere in the tank. One week ago I had an outbreak of dinoflaggetes that has lingered, idk if this would impact anything or not. If anyone knows what can cause this specific coral to die and nothing else please respond. Also any advice to recovering from this as other corals have traces of the white sludge released from the candy cane on them.

Yeah nothing else died only the candy canes. All of my other coral didn’t seem to be affected. One of my candy cane corals I had bought about 2 weeks ago but I don’t know if there is any diseases that can do so much damage so fast.

We need more info.... tank age, full tank pictures, what other corals are in the tank? What livestock in the tank, did anything eat the coral? The question "why was the coral fine yesterday and dead today" without any additional info is impossible to answer.

The tank is about 1.5 years old and is about 15 gallons. Other than my candy canes I have a bunch of mushrooms, a big GSP, a small favia, a leptoseris, a small hammer, and 2 acans. I had a big bubble tip anemone that was touching the candy cane but I removed it 2 weeks ago because it was causing problems. Other than the anemone stinging a single head of the candy cane, nothing else has stung it from what I can see. I have a clownfish and a yellowtail damsel. I also have a pistol shrimp and goby. I haven’t seen any of those animals picking at the coral. I did a water change 4 days ago and siphoned out a lot of detritus sitting in my filter compartment. I also rinsed my filter media in RO/DI water since it hadn’t ever been cleaned. Here’s a photo from this morning as soon as the lights came on. I also attached a photo of my he candy cane coral in the bucket I put it in. You can see the flesh literally melted right off of it. And this is a place where the coral wasn’t remotely close to another coral. Thanks for the help.
