are any of you running a canopy of any sort? have started thinking of doing a "floating" design where it is attached to the wall behind the tank

When I had a JBJ28, I didn't like the stock light/hoods. I had both the HQI and a compact fluorescent one. Wanted to go LED, and JBJ wanted too much for their LED hood, so I DIY'ed a canopy that held an LED fixture.

Primes with the 12” flex arms
Depending on how many you need. You can just order the hanging kits from BRS. $22 each, or just head to Lowe's and pick up a screw that will fit, bend a hunk of aluminum and hang them from a wire.. (sorry I love to fabricate stuff)

Now you will be up to a lot more options in hanging them

Built this out of red oak for a 65 gal 36" tank. Not many people run AquaRay lights, but they have no moving parts and are passively cooled, so I built this to let the air flow through and not trap any of the heat. Been running these for four years now with this hood design and it's been working well.

I know rimless is a more modern look, but I've had this tank for over a decade and had no reason to break it down to get a more modern look. Personally, I'm ok with what I have because it looks like a complete piece of furniture in my family room and the lights are completely hidden.

The floating idea sounds cool, if you build it, please share pics.

I actually like the furniture look of a complete tank, stand, and hood combo. I like the floating canopy's as well. Where theres air gap between the tank and hood. Or the hood is smaller and more centered.
I'm debating hanging my lights from my ceiling or doing the floating canopy from my ceiling when I transfer to the big boy.
