Hello all,

I have been having a very tough time Keeping acros since my tank upgrade. All my acros do fine for about two weeks then, they slow lose all the tissue from the bottom up while still displaying polyp extension. All my test via the Salfiert test kits are with acceptable range. I have a doser on the tank using the balling method from Tropic Marin. I use TMP salt. I have a 5 stage RO/DI that has 001 DTS. I sent my water to be tested at AWD. Results below:

Reef Tank - 24 of 50 *
12-28-2015 Ammonia (NH3-4) Good 0.01 0.000 - 0.050 mg/L
12-28-2015 Nitrite (NO2) Good 0.006 0.000 - 0.100 mg/L
12-28-2015 Phosphate (PO4) Good 0.09 0.000 - 0.250 mg/L
12-28-2015 Nitrate (NO3) Good 0.9 0.000 - 25.000 mg/L
12-28-2015 Silica (Sio2-3) Good 0.1 0.000 - 0.500 mg/L
12-28-2015 Potassium (K) Good 384 350.000 - 450.000 mg/L
12-28-2015 Ionic Calcium (Ca) Good 140 100.000 - 400.000 mg/L
12-28-2015 Boron (B) NA NA 3.000 - 6.000 mg/L
12-28-2015 Molybdenum (Mo) Good 0.1 0.000 - 0.300 mg/L
12-28-2015 Strontium (Sr) Good 7.7 5.000 - 12.000 mg/L
12-28-2015 Magnesium (Mg) Good 1240 1100.000 - 1400.000 mg/L
12-28-2015 Iodine (I) Good 0.04 0.030 - 0.090 mg/L
12-28-2015 Copper (Cu) Good 0.01 0.000 - 0.100 mg/L
12-28-2015 Alkalinity (meq/L) Good 2.6 2.500 - 5.000 meq/L
12-28-2015 Total Calcium (Ca) Good 370 350.000 - 450.000 mg/L
12-28-2015 Iron (Fe) NA NA 0.000 - 0.010 mg/L

System:
  • 120g with 40g sump
  • 2 250w halides 14k
  • 2 48" T5 with AB CP bulbs
  • Current 36" LED Actinic strip
  • Skimz SM 203 skimmer
  • Aqua Medic EVO 4 doser
  • chiller heater
  • RKL
  • mp 40 and Gyre 150 for flow
  • chemipure carbon in sump

Montis and digis are growing with a visible growth edge but, almost no acro shows growth. LPS seem fine as well.

I really looked hard at everything and I cant figure out whats going on. I've kept a successful SPS tank in the past and I am doing everything the same way with poor results. Things also seem to get worse with a water change.

I began dosing NO3 via stumpkiller to get my nitrates up but, I dont think they are that low as is.

I have been trying to trace where my tank started to go wrong and it may have been around the time I started using a booster pump on my RO/DI. I'm wondering if one of the lines is improperly connected. But, I would think that would affect TDS?

I need help. Im pouring money into my tank and killing sticks left and right. I have three orders being held for me now that I may have to re-home if I cant get this figured out.

can we get a shot of an "ailing" acro?

if the numbers you have are right... you need to get back inline with redfield

I can see that being a little low but, do you think this would cause RTN/STN in an acro over the course of two weeks?

biggest issue is .09 po4 in relation to no no3.

id bump nitrate to 5, alk to 8.5 dkh and see what happens. (slowly)

also if you can. get a birdsnest

I brought my ALK down to compensate for the lower PO4 and NO3. Was that incorrect?

Also, wouldn't montis and digis be affected as well?

it is right.
but the symbiodinium are dying.

2 week deaths of paling and dying is indication of starvation with too much light

Are you making sure that your Alkalinity isn't fluctuating too much?
alk swings generally kill abruptly and unexpectedly. also he does have a birdsnest. which would be the first to go.

i could be assuming... but if he has a 2 week clockwork decline, alk would have to constantly be high or low

birdsnest will tell us a lot

I've tested up to three times a day. It's very close to the same each time. I use a doser set for 6 small(9-12mls) doses spread out through the day.

are your birdsnest polyps hiding in the skeleton in patches?

I did use the RS a and b.
Now I dont have issues with using it but the amount it cost to continue using it was not supportive.
I went to AP (acro power)
