Can't tell parameters!

I added a full bottle of dr tims nitrifying bacteria about 2 weeks ago. when i first started the cycle. Also do I need to do a water change before adding fish or can I just directly put fish in?

Wouldn't clowns get territorial if I add them first?

The exercise “territory” just in one area. They don’t harass others unless they come to “their” spot. That’s normal of any fish.


That’s why I do them first, get them settled in their spot.

But, for clowns, some species are much nastier overall like Tomato or Lightnings, yes these could be problematic.

But simple Occs are usually very docile, pair easily if juveniles and are very resilient.

So would depend on one’s choices.

In a 30 gallon, you won't want more than 2-3 other fish... the clowns can be added whenever but I'd do either first or last. That way they either establish territory early or have to abide by the other fishes' territories just once.

Wait your saying not to put more then 2-3 fish other then the clowns? That is what I am doing, I am thinking about slowly adding in some fish with a total of 5 - 7 fish

I have a 140gallon with 12. Do what you think is best.

If it's going to happen, it will happen regardless of when you add. Just get the common ones (not tomato or other more aggressive types) and it should be fine.

If you're getting a pair of full grown clowns, adding last might be best but if you're getting 2 small ones and pairing them up, they'll need time to figure out who's gonna turn into the female, find territory, etc.

Also, don't try to get an anemone until your water parameters are STABLE (not changing) for at LEAST 2 months. New reefer + new tank does not = a good tank for nems.

If your talking 2, juvenile (under 3/4”) occellaris or percs then yup, that’s always been my starting point.

At about 2-3 months, me, I add a RBTA then wait till they find that home. By then, the RBTA doesn’t move much.

They will not leave that nem much and may venture 6” or so, but this is where they stay. Makes great centrepiece.

Then I add one tank mate at a time, letting them settle and find a spot. I continue until all fish are added with most aggressive last.

Thanks for the advice, my only problem is that I don't think I am ready to get coral since I am pretty new. Also, so you are basically saying add the clowns first and then add others later? I don't think I will add coral for a good year because I am new and I need to research about them more.
