I recently purchased two red carpet anemones from another reefer out of state. I was told they were haddoni carpets, but after receiving them, someone mentioned they don’t quite look like typical haddonis. When I reached out to the seller, he mentioned that these two were splits from his main carpet anemone.

I was under the impression that haddoni anemones don’t usually split, so now I’m not entirely sure what they are. I’ve attached a couple of photos (from the seller) of the two I received, as well as a picture of the mother anemones they came from. I can take some closer pictures of them in my tank tomorrow when my lights are back on. He said his usually max out around 12 inches across and that these two are about a year old.

If anyone has an idea of what species they might be, I’d really appreciate the input. Thanks!

Look like Haddoni carpets to me, but perhaps others will chime in. Don’t recall hearing of Haddoni splitting, but probably possible. I have seen a thread on here of a Gigantea carpet splitting.

They are Haddoni. The picture of the three anemones show three anemones that are not identical. They each have different color mouth.

I’ll post some pictures of the two I got in my tank tomorrow. Does it make sense that they’re splits off of one of the ones in that picture? I thought haddonis don’t split?

Something doesn't feel right about this. Haddoni don't naturally split, and as @OrionN mentioned, they don't look identical. Splits are clones so they should be identical. I'm looking forward to seeing the images of the anemones in your tank -- they might be different anemones altogether.

I took some pictures of the carpets. I don’t have a good lens so it’s hard to get clear photos, but if anyone would like to see them better lmk and I’ll grab some more.

They definitely look like haddoni. I always say there's a first for everything in this hobby. Maybe someone figured out how to clone these?

Someone mentioned to me that there is a different type of carpet that isn’t a haddoni. Apparently it stays smaller and will split off babies. Any idea what type he’s talking about and if this is that or would you say these are the typical haddonis?
