Cement Blocks / Cement Bricks in Aquarium?

Cement Blocks / Cement Bricks in Aquarium?

I was in Lowes and saw the have Cement Blocks Pavers and Bricks. I have
one rock I'd like to lift up a few inches and thought they would be perfect.

Any real down side to using them in small quantities?

I think you may have to soak them just like if you were to use portland cement to make your own frag discs. So as long as you soak them for awhile I THINK you're good if anyone agrees with me. I think if you goto your LFS and pick out some nice pieces of Lice Rock it would be easier and look better though.

it will defintiely leach impurites in your tank like stated above it must be soaked over a course of a few weeks so there are no impurities released. you can always put it in your toilet tank and have auto water changes done for you

You can also use PVC if its going to be hidden by the sand.

concrete blocks have been used with great success but yeah they need to be purified a bit, for a couple of bucks more you can buy glass blocks and drill a couple of holes in them

Yea they need to be soaked,pvc seems easier to work with imo....Also ive heard that bricks get really heavy in a tank,so if your stand doesnt support the whole bottom of the tank,it could bottom out........

Thank you for the responses

Actually I will see them, I have a rock I just want to raise up about 4" or so
I want a Flat top and bottom to the new rock (hence the Cement paver, etc).

That way I can take a block hammer and chip it to the since and shape
I want and keep the flat top and bottom. it the end it will only be about
a 4" tall anc close to the same across.

I could also just get a piece of LR but the block is already closer to
the size and shape I'm looking for.
