I have a question about fragging a chalice encrusted on a frag tile
I know how to frag them, ive fragged alot of differant types of coral

I need to cut 5 single eyed frags and i figured a razor blade would be easier to get a clean cut with than a dremel

But my question is can a razor blade cut through a frag tile?

Thanks

With a hammer backing it, yes.

If you want to guide the tile breakage, score it with a Dremel on the bottom of the tile in the areas you wish to break/frag... doing this helps prevent the random shattering of the tile from the impact. Wear safety glasses, razor blades are hardened steel.. so they can shatter.

Ok thanks, ill try that today or very soon

Ive had some shatter on other projects..dangerous hobby, reef keeping

It really depends on the the frag tiles made up of, and how strong they are.
If you can break the frag tiles with razor blade in one swing then go for it.
there's no set rule when I do fragging in this situation.
Sometimes I would be lucky chopping off chalice with frag plugs still attached. Sometimes you will find some frag plugs that wouldnt breakoff. In this case, I try not force things. I will see if chalice frag is glued loose off the original frag, then reglue them on new one.
remember, your risking $100-200 everytime you take that swing of the hammer, maybe even more!

Yea its a miami hurricane chalice about 20+ eyes, and its is completly grown over the tile and growing on another 4in. d. disc i made for it

U going to make single eye frag of MH?
They went down in price so bad, its better to frag 3-4 eyes frag.

People sell 1 eye frags alot, more so than not actully. Some people dont like to cut their corals, and with Miami Hurricane being one of the most underestimated corals in the hobby,I dont like to cut mine often either!

4 of the 5 are already sold, i just have to cut them and let them be healed up by the dec., thats why i need to cut soon

get an INLAND saw. You can cut the coral with surgical precision . It will pay for it self in a few frags. dremels are ancient and barbaric .

I use my teeth for most fragging, a good chomp and your good to go, also very accurate. But i agree with the post above, IMO a reef inland band saw will pay for itself in the amount of money you wont loose by fragging other ways. If you want to know where to find them 200 shipped drop me a message also.
