Simply out of curiousity, is there a correlation between a chalice corals amount of mouths per square inch and how much light/flow/feedings/health/etc? I didn't get a picture before lights out but my chalice isn't huge, 2 or 3" in diameter but evertime i turn around i swear it's grown a new mouth! Heres an older picture! It has more mouths now

I don't know if I have seen information on mouth density and food availability but with more mouths to feed I would expect they will all want more food?

I did a brief search and found something totally useless

Which zodiac should wear coral?

Ideal Clients for Coral Gemstone

Coral is recommended for people who have either Aries or Scorpio as their sun or moon. Furthermore, a person having a debilitated Mars may also benefit from the coral by donning it according to the astrologer's expertise .

-I do know that some vendors used to charge per/mouth prices for chalice corals but now that fragment sizes are so small mouths seem to be optional?

Let's call this a bump.

I assume they will all want food! It just made me think, my corals slightly larger in diameter but it's like everytime I turn around it's growing a new mouth! Wasn't sure if that meant it wants more food so it's growing new mouths to try and catch it, or because it's fed so well it's growing more mouths to try and capitalize on the available food. Or maybe lightings not strong enough so it's going to try and rely more on food etc etc the list could go on and on.

I know folks who frag plates and other "single polyp" corals and eventually if they survive they also develop an polyp cavity & stomach. I would not be surprised if colonial chalice and similar corals develop new mouths faster when the drift feeding is "good" compared to corals growing in low plankton environments?

SOund like a neat experiment for someone with a coral lab.

Absolutely! Would be very interesting to see some testing on this!
