Some misconceptions here ....

No fish will school in your tank, some loose shoaling is about the best you can expect and that is helped greatly by having a few large intimidators. Blue greens are really good at winnowing themselves down to just one or two, but it is not an inevitability. Having a huge tank and feeding them like pseudoanthias can help to maintain a group. Uronema is a problem with chromis, so QT is absolutely necessary. You DO NOT want uronema in your tank.

I've found that chromis are can be delicate when very first introduced to the tank. They're a meek fish until settled in. I have three in a 40 gallon breeder (2x black-Axle, and 1x viridis). They get along... for now. But I have a heavily stocked tank with 3 cardinal fish, 1 leopard wrasse, 1 wideband Clownfish, 1x filefish, 1 tailspot blenny, and 1x yellowtail damselfish. So, I have a whole lot of distractions for those chromis to disperse any aggression. I suspect that ca1ore may be correct that shoaling behavior is more likely with some other larger fish around that will keep that group "scared." The presence of larger "scary" fish may change the chromis' psychology from focusing on the hierarchy to sticking together for survival. In the wild these fish use large coral heads for shelter and safety in a similar fashion to how a clownish uses an anemone. With no external threats these fish focus on internal threats and turn into jerks.

Not sure if this would be the best place to ask but...
We have had this Chromis for about 5 years now. After about the first year every once in awhile he puts on his Skeletor face like Halloween and keeps it on for awhile.
I have three more and they do not do this and have never seen this with any other fish.
First time I saw him like this I thought he g

ot caught in a fan or another fish ate his face off.
I have attached a video of him. He has his costume on till about a minute into the video. Then he dips behind some mushrooms and when he comes back up he is just about back to normal.
Has any one had one of these guys do this? Or any ideas why?
He seems healthy but it freaky as all hell.
thanks for any feed back at all or if anyone can suggest where I can post this for answers.

I have 10 green chromis, all doing fine and it has been a while perhaps a year not sure. Keep them well fed I think reduces their aggression toward each other although they still pick on each other a bit.

I have a 55 gallon new macro algae tank setup that I had 4 chromis in and lost all 4 of them over the course of about 4 days. This morning I lost the last one. I have checked my parameters and am just trying to figure out what is going on. The parameters of my tank are such:
Ph-8.0
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate:20ppm
Kh: 10
Salinity: 1.024

I want to add fish to this tank but am wondering what I may be doing wrong and I definitely do not want to keep losing fish. I did a 10% water change at the end of my cycle which was a fish less cycle. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

How did the chromis bodies look? Did they look like this with red sores and mouths gaping?

No they did not have any red sores or their mouths gaping. Could it just have been a stress issue?

Always tough to pin down rapid deaths without symptoms. Were the fish shipped or did you pick them up at LFS?

I picked them up at the LFS. When in the tank at the LFS they looked healthy and were swimming around with no visible issues. Just not sure what it could have been. I just want to ensure that my next fish that I place in the tank will be fine.

Started out with 5...after two years down to 2 that seem to engage in courting type behavior around dusk. They dance around gently, kiss, etc.

No redness around the gills. There was some rapid breathing at the begining once they were placed into the tank. That did on down and even on the very last one that was alive was breathing normally and eating with no issues.

That I do not know. That's a question that I did not ask. Maybe a difference in salinity level could have been the issue..
