I thought my midas blenny looked funny and today I noticed why.

He only has one fin. He's missing the fin from his right side.
Poor blenny only has a left fin.

I looked back at the earlier pics of him and sure enough...
Just 1 fin.

Im trying to decide if I want to try to catch him and bring him back to the lfs and exchange him for a midas blenny with two fins.

Tough call. Your tank is new, perhaps a stronger fish would be worth considering.

The Rio 800+ arrived today.

I immediately replaced the 200 with the 800.
I now have more turnover.:D
I went from 138gph to 211gph.

I will be taking more pics soon. Im still trying to decide where to place the corals but I'm getting there.
AI Prime finished it's acclimation period. Now I will watch my corals and see if I need to go brighter, dimmer or if I nailed it.

I'm bummed.

I don't think my Midas blenny is gonna make it.
I've been working like a slave over the past week or so and have not really had time to see the tank during regular people hours. I have been out the house at 5am and not returning till about 11pm or later on average.
When I have been home at around 6 or 7pm, I only see him in his hiding place.
I have not seen him actively eat from the time I first got him but I "think" he has eaten at least a very little.
Are Midas Blenny's active eaters? I've never cared for one before so I don't really know their normal feeding behavior.

Looking at him day before yesterday, last night and this morning, It looks like he has not moved from his spot. I thought he was dead yesterday and just stuck in his spot. I turned the flow off to get him out the tank but when I went to grab him, he moved back a little into his hiding place so I knew he was still alive.
He's still yellow but he looks slightly white around his gills and looks a little grey around small parts of his body.

I wish I was able to see the tank during the day to see if he's coming out to swim or hunt for food.

For all I know he's perfectly fine during the day and I am only seeing him during sleep hours.

My plan was (is) to take him back to the lfs and exchange him for a blenny that has TWO fins (mine only has one). The lfs said they will not have any until today or tomorrow.
My work schedule won't let me do anything until Saturday at the earliest and that is only if he survives that long AND I can get him out his hiding spot and catch him to take him back.

Good news!
I was able to get home from work today at a decent hour and find the midas blenny out and swimming.

I fed the tank but still don't see him actively going to get good though.

Good news!

They do not have swim bladders so they tire quickly. Takes a lot of energy for them to swim. Mine rests a lot during the day between periods of being quite active. They also tend to eat throughout the day picking pods and such to recoup that energy.

I have put an awful lot of pods in the fuge but honestly, I don't see them anymore.
I had a lot of the red ones but they seem to be all gone.

I will restock pods!

I thought the midas blenny ate mysis and flake food and other foods like that.

pods gotta eat too man! if your sump is sparkly, they are going to have a tough time surviving in good numbers.

I wish my fuge was still sparkly.
I have chaeto and some kind of brown slimy algae growing. Chaeto on purpose. Brown slime is byproduct of tank.

I have dosed Seachem Phytoplankton but don't know if it's any good for pods.

The tank has been coming along great so far.
I have placed most corals in their permanent spots and now I wait for growth.

I have one favites coral that I just don't know where to place.
Maybe you all can help me with placement.

This is the coral

Bad news.

My midas blenny died. I did not think he was in great shape but he was doing alright.

I was using vibrant in my 110gal tank and decided to add a dose to the 15gal. I did not think it could hurt but it did.

I came home from work and saw the midas blenny drifting around the tank dead. I pulled him out thinking he just wasn't strong enough or he wasn't eating enough to survive.
The next morning, I see both my clowns stressed.
Small clown swimming vertical at the glass and my larger clown breathing real hard down on the sandbed.

I did a series of water changes and added carbon.

This morning, both the clowns seem to be doing well. Both were swimming and neither were breathing heavy.

Something in the vibrant clearly had a negative effect on the tank.
Im sad I lost the blenny but I'm happy I only lost the 1 fish instead of 3 .

I will most likely replace the midas blenny as I really liked that fish.
I want a firefish too so I'm probably going to get both at the same time.

Sorry to hear. Glad the Clownfish made it.

Help me out with this.
I got this fish for $5 but I don't know what it is.
20180929_132738.jpg

Im sure its way more than $5. The person from petco did not know what it was so she gave it to me for the price of a damsel.
I hope it's not a dottyback but I think it may be a splendid dottyback.
A little i.d. help would be nice.

I also got a royal gramma basslet.
Pics to come...

If it's indeed a dottyback, I may have purchased a problem for $5.
Dottybacks are bullies.

Hi, its a Splendid dottyback (Manonichthys splendens).
They are super aggressive, so have a eye on him.
