Hi! So I just noticed recently that my clownfish pair and yellow clownfish goby were acting kinda weird towards the scoly in my tank and the clownfish pairs clay pot. I'll add photos with this to show what the fish do to the scoly,(wish I could add a video to show y'all) but my question is why do they rub up against the scoly and their pot? And do y'all think it'll hurt the scoly? We actually had it in our 50g but moved it to my 22g due to our emperor angle was taking chunks out of it and were trying to let it heal but I'm worried that the scoly won't due to the fish sitting on it and rubbing up against it..

P.S. sorry the pics aren't the best but they'll have to do.

Thanks,
Josett Waid

Move the scoly away from the pot. They will stress it and kill it. It's soft flesh can be torn on its own skeleton by them rubbing on it. And they are not a coral the clowns should be hosting with. Maybe try a toad stool or a bubble tip anemone depending on your tank.

Thanks for the reply! That's what I kinda thought, I knew it can't be good on it so I'll move in to the frag rack in my tank and hopefully they won't go looking for it. I did have a toadstool in the tank but there just isn't enough sand space to put it on without it touching other corals that may sting it, and I'm waiting two more months for any anemone since that'll be my 6month mark for the tank.

I think my scoly had an expensive meal in my clown pair. They both disappeared a few months apart with no signs of them anywhere.

That's sucks so sorry.. I was worried about it eating my clownfish goby but I don't think it would and my clownfish are too big for it to eat them.

That's good. Our old one , my avatar pic. Use to eat snails and hermit crabs and then spit the shells out a day or 2 later

Wow that's crazy. Well thankfully the scoly won't be in my tank for but a few more months so it won't eat anything in my tank, lol.

I have a scoly skeleton at home. If I can find it I'll take a pic. If the clowns rub t hard enough they will cut the flesh of the scoly with its own skeleton.

I would not see it as being good for the scoly long term. It may simply come down to how aggressive the clowns get to determine how long it will last.

I forgot to say but you're totally right about it rubbing the flesh off because when I moved it to the frag rack I could see new skeleton showing because of the clowns.

Well my clownfish goby found it but I knew that was inevitable since he likes to sit on the frag rack, but hopefully since all he does is just sit on it that it won't hurt the scoly much.

Also I have another question if someone could answer it. I know I asked in the main post as to why the clownfish would rub against their pot but didn't get an answer for that.. So does anyone know why they would do that and also they rub against my magnetic glass cleaner, both the surfaces are smooth so if anyone has an idea why they do this would be greatly appreciated!

They like to keep a spot clean. Usually for laying eggs. Our clown has always done it in the spot they choose to rest at night.

Yeah I was kinda thinking towards the laying eggs part just because they are a pair and aren't young so I guess I'll just have to watch and see if they do show anymore signs of spawning. Hopefully if they do it'll be on the pot so I can just take it out and put the eggs in a separate tank by them selves.
