Hey guys,

I have a clownfish that I noticed was really chunky maybe 1-2 weeks ago. I didn’t think much of it and figured he’d been eating good. Now I notice he is a little more lethargic than normal and still bloated.

I think he looks slightly better today than he did yesterday but I’m not too sure. He really didn’t show interest in food today or yesterday. I haven’t seen any poop coming from him.

I recently about 2-3 months ago had a helfrichi die randomly. I would see it struggling on the sand some days but other days seemed fine until one day I never saw it again. I added some corals about 2 weeks ago that I didn’t dip for the first time ever because I was in a rush. Besides this nothing has changed.

Fish have always ate TDO pellets from an auto feeder and mysis a couple times a week. These are the best pictures I can get because he always, even before being bloated, hides under the rocks.

I also noticed for the first time today that part of his lower top fin is gone. I have metroplex and I think ruby reef on hand. I can get Maracyn tomorrow. I have 2 QT tanks so that’s no concern and I leave Friday for a trip and return Tuesday morning.

I have one other clown which is the larger clown and a Bangai in this tank. Let me know if pictures are not sufficient and I will remove the rocks. I have had this midnight clown since he was about a half inch big baby. It has been over 2 years and he has survived tank crashes and fish wipe outs so I’m trying to do everything I can to save him.

This can be bloating, constipation or fish even egg-bound (fertile or not)
Is fish eating and breathing normal?
Lower light intensity, assure water flow is Not excessive and add air stone for added oxygen

I haven’t seen him go after the food when I put it in recently. So you think I should just keep observing and not start dosing?

Not sure what foods you are offering but try brine shrimp and/or flakes

It does look like somebody took a bite out of its fin, but I suspect that this was because the clown is weakened from this other bloating issue.

I know pictures are tough to get and of a black fish is even harder, but I really can't see clearly enough to hazard a guess as to what is going on. Generally, bloating with a fish not eating is a serious symptom.

Here is a short article I wrote on abdominal swelling in fish:

@Jay Hemdal @vetteguy53081 so this morning he looks slightly less bloated and i notice a white spec at the bottom of his stomach like he may be pooping white. Would this give you any more ideas? today i'm going to remove all the rock so i can get a better photo. He hides from the light.
