Came home from work today to see my clowns busily tending a clutch of eggs in their corner of the tank. It’s pretty cool to see them at work, and it’s a pretty decent sized patch - provably a circle about 2” in diameter. My question is - what are the odds we could get any survivors? There’s a lot of rock work that offers hiding places, and it is a 140 gallon display, so they aren’t short on space, but it’s also reasonably stocked with other fish. I kind of assume as soon as they hatch, they’ll just become a snack for the other fish, but maybe some others have had success stories in this kind of scenario?

Only once in a blue moon. Nothing stopping you from freestyling

Theres plenty of threads that explain how to do this with some phyto and rotifers using the green water method though

Take that as a win! Be pleased that you have happy and healthy fish!

If you leave them be?

Zero
That’s what I’m thinking. Not really sure there is a good way for me to get them out though. They’re probably 25” deep in there, and attached to the rock wall.
They become food in the big circle of life. Probably hatch when it’s dark.

If you want to try to raise them you're likely not going to have much luck with this batch because your not ready or setup for it yet. If you want to try to catch the fry in the future you can look into the Vossen larval trap. You can also place a tile or something near the egg laying site and hope they lay on it next time to pull the eggs out. My clowns who lay are super picky about where they lay. They lay their eggs in the exact same spot every time. I tried to get them to lay on all sorts of tiles and frag plugs next to their laying site and they avoid laying even a sinle egg on it so far lol. This guy has great videos on the entire process of clown breeding and raising. https://youtube.com/@theaqualogy?si=EaslpjNx8VGmoz6l
