Hej,

It’s been a couple of days since i noticed one of my clowns resting on the bottom glass in the late afternoon, when its not noticed. That corner is where they sleep at night.
The flow in my tank is quite strong, but so far looks like the clowns liked it, though sometimes they move to low flow areas.
When i come by, he start swimming and also get food from my fingers directly. Do you know if he’s just resting or if could be something worse?

the female clown is doing well and swimming like crazy, as always. Also the corals are doing fine and they are all open, a part from a Plexaura sp. which is adapting to the new lighting intensity…

do you have any suggestions?

i uploaded a video. Sorry for the bad quality but i had to use the digital zoom.

thank you for any help

Tomorrow I am doing all the water tests and post the results.

Looks to me like the little guy is moribund. Very, very sorry and I hope I'm wrong. It's unlikely that he'll recover. Can you take some closer pictures of him or do a freshwater dip to help identify disease so you can treat your other clown?

Is there a way to adjust the flow in your tank? Just got the video to play more than the first few seconds, and he does seem to be swimming occasionally.
Yup, I have 2 MP10 running alternatively in reef crest at 45-50% so far. Might have to dial down.
They’ve been swimming with 60-70% power in the last months…

Definitely not completely moribund then! What are your other tank parameters? Has he been eating normally too or just when hand-fed?
I am planning to do all the testing tomorrow. To me it looks like the parameters are generally fine. I have sps in and they’re all open :)
He’s eating kind of normal, the other guy is quite aggressive (on food) when eating. But i can tell you they generally come to eat from my fingers.

Looks like resting. My clownfish would just lay on the sand up against the glass, but when it was feeding time or when I would come up to the tank it was swimming fine. As long as its eating then i'd say you're in the clear. Also it looks like its getting blown around by flow, try reducing it a little or rsther direct more at the surface for gas exchange, and see if he stops yawning.

the fish looks fine to me. Mine sometimes sit down on the sand immobile like that, it scared me the first few times I saw it, but they are just fooling. Mine usually do it in the morning before the main lights turn on. It looks healthy, good color, you said its eating just fine, thats a healthy fish IMO

I just come back home and couldn’t find the female clown anywhere. It was weird as was the healthier of the pair and use to swim like a powerboat all day long. I thought it had been eaten by the amboinensis shrimp, but in the end it jumped in the filter sock! (WHAT A LUCK it was still alive!). This made me think there’s something wrong in the tank. I did the tests right away and these are the values:

pH 8.0
NH3 0 ppm
NO3 0.5 ppm
PO4 0 ppm
KH 5.6 (very low!)

so now I turned on the RODI gear to get water and do a 20% water change right tomorrow morning (11 pm local time, no way to determine the right salinity with the refractometer now) to hopefully stabilise the PH and raise the KH.

any suggestions?!

Cheched again this morning. He still rests and not super appetite. He just eats a bit then go.
I am going to dose eSha-ndx and after 24h insert active carbon plus a 20% water change.

“levamisole-based roundworm treatment. It works against parasitic nematodes like Camallanus, Capillaria, Pseudo-capillaria, Eustrongylides, Oxyuris et al. Roundworms are generally found in the intestines of the fish and some can be visible to the eye.”

any opinion that I should not do it? It should be reef safe also for feather duster worms (i have one).

The fish is still feeding, so it isn’t moribund. That it feeds from your fingers, it means it is comfortable with you.
It does look negatively buoyant - not enough gas in its gas bladder. This can’t be treated, but ultimately won’t be fatal like positive buoyancy often is.
You can try changing the flow in the tank as this could also just be a behavior change in this fish.

Hey
I lowered the flow even more and looks live he’s active now. Just got a recliner chair and put in front of the tank…to keep checking the fishes and hygge (danish word for relaxing in a cozy environment).
I also turned back the temp from 79F to 81F (26C to 27C) as i lowered that down in the very last few days. I don’t know if that helped, but here’s a video

thanks everyone for the help, i really appreciate it!

i really hope I’m not going to write more posts in this thread ;)
