Not sure if this is a stupid question or not as I'm not the most knowledgable person when it comes to LEDS. BUT... my gf made an observation to me last night about the angles which we hang our lights.

Traditionally I see people hanging them like this

-....-....- OR |....|....|

Would the tank get better spread on the lights if we were to change them to ....

\....-..../ or /....-.....\

Now this makes sense in my head, but it's extremely hard for me to put that down in words lol so if I sound crazy, I promise it isn't!

Let me know your thoughts to combat the shading with the LEDS on acros!

oh and the lines and dots are as if you are looking down into the tank, not horizontally.

IMO, when you angle them, you are creating bigger areas of shade

No matter what you try with point source lighting there is always going to be shading. The only combat against it is to over compensate with more led pucks or supplement with t-5s. As the case of mine I have a 30" tank with 3 pucks. I still have some shading but not what I would have if I went with the recommended 2 puck fixture. All of my shading is on the out most sides of my rockwork.

I have a single MH on a 3ft tank and have been working on adding LEDs to cover the sides of my SPS which do not get any lights and are visibly a different pigment and have less PE. I am going to angle them similar to the picture I saw online.

It's typically the folks using the overpriced pucks that have this problem. The manufacturers do this to get you buying more, it's a vicious trap. Just use as many fixtures as you can.
