Copepods

I'm working with copepods for a school project and don't know much about them. I know that tap water will most likely kill them, so I'm not sure which type to use since deionized water will also probably kill them. I can't fit buying a bunch of spring water into my budget since I have to do 3 trials and I have 10 gallon tanks. Would water purification tablets (like aquatabs, aquamira, etc) harm the copepods? or would that make the tap water safe enough for them?

Do you mean freshwater or saltwater copepods?

If saltwater copepods, then deionized or distilled water is best. Don't use spring water. You can use tap water but you need some dechlorinator.

But sounds like your at the very beginning of your research, do a few google searches and do more reading, there is lots of info online. Also lots of videos on youtube on how to set up a DIY copepod culture.

Municipal water is acceptable to use if you aireate it in a bucket for 24 hours. However, tanks should be set up in advance with synthetic instant ocean and some type of growing algae needs to be available for sustainable production.

There are many different species of copepods with different requirements. Would you better describe your experiment. What species of copepods?

Are you a student? Or teacher? Also, what is the curriculum name that supports this experiment.

Search copepods in the search bar as well here. There is some info. But it is not as clearly labeled

(Also litter bottles work great to grow copepods) vs your 10 gallon
