I added a copper band to my tank. First few days he was hiding in the corner because my PBT was being a bully. Then he got used to everything. He was eating frozen shrimp. Last night I checked on my tank before I went to bed and it looked like his top fins were bleeding a little. Then I woke up this morning and he was dead. I’m just trying to figure out what it’s from. All the fish seemed to be getting along so not sure what the issue is. Here’s some pics of the body.

How did you acclimate him? Although, I just temp/drain/dump, so I don't see an acclimation issue causing his current look/condition.

Floated then drip acclimated. I’ve had him for over a week and a half so I don’t think acclimation is an issue.

Bacterial infection, very common with these fish.

What causes this?

I don't know what specifically makes these fish more susceptible to bacterial infection. But it's a very common issue, prophylactic treatment with NFG is probably a good idea with this fish.

Probably a bacterial infection. CBBs are notorious for having them. It was probably just hanging out then started working on him when the other fish stressed him. I’m so sorry.

The best cure of aptasia in my opinion is AptasiaX for the big ones and peppermint shrimp for the small ones.
I’ll have to get some aptasiaX. I saw it at my lfs. The copper band ate most of it but I see a few small ones on the other side of the tank where he wasn’t going to

So now that the copper band died in my tank and had an infection does this mean my current tank is infected?

Not likely. If your other fish are healthy you probably don’t have anything to worry about. I think CBBs don’t handle shipping well, so whatever bacteria swims around in them just takes over when their immune system is weakened.

Awesome I’ll have to go snag some peppermint shrimp. I heard they are a hit or miss. This true?

CBB also need lots to eat and they don't feed as fast as tangs do so it helps to fatten them up in a quarantine tank separate from aggressive fish before you add the to the display tank if possible. Feed LRS reef frenzy and clams.

FWIW, my experience with aptasia x resulted in more apts than what I started with. Tried berghia nudibrandts also, they helped some but the population crashed before the apts were eliminated and the aptasia just came back. CBB was the ultimate solution. They work nonstop on them.

Yea... probably. I put one in my tank and within a month, every aptasia I had was gone. My hubby put one in his tank. It took care of the little ones but totally ignored the larger ones. AptasiaX took care of those!

"I’ll have to get some aptasiaX" before you waste the money you may want to take a look at Esox's "death juice" here

https://www.ultimatereef.net/thread...nuisance-coral-and-algae.817613/#post-7689201

buy the chemicals (pharmaceutical grade) on ebay and can knock this up for a fraction of the cost by volume and way more potent than apX. Dosent affect the tank in anyway that I or others can tell.

was pretty disappointed with apx, took multiple attempts to kill aps. The "death juice" is one and done ;)

I've never had an aptasia make it past my QT so I don't have any personal experience with this so maybe I'm wrong but I know there are many different shrimp that are sold as "peppermint shrimp", I have heard people say that it's only one or two types that are for sure aptasia eaters and the others are hit or miss. I've been told "A" is the one you want for eating aptasia:

iu

But like I said I don't know for sure, maybe run that by someone that knows shrimp better than me. I've also heard that F-Aptasia is much more effective than Aptasia-X. You might want to look into that as well.
