I’ve had a Purple tang in QT for awhile, maybe a month? Always start with observation then if anything develops I go to medicine. He developed ich on the 18th brought him up 2.5 copper power been in there since, doing well. It appears today his belly is slightly pinched which I had not noticed before and doesn’t seem to want to eat as well as he normally does..

Is the copper starting to get to him? If so what’s the soonest I can move him? I have another cycled observation tank ready to go for him and a few other fish when they are done with copper.

Also may be worth mentioning have not seen any sign of ich since the 20th.

Thanks

As far as I know Purple Tangs tolerate copper just fine ( I have one the just finished 30 days at 2.5 PPM) so I would say copper is not the problem. I would check your water (ammonia) and then look into fluke symptoms.

I know that some people advocate for copper treatments to be 14 days. that's really a "leftover" from when we used the more toxic ionic copper. With copper power, you should run 30 days. You can sometimes get that down to 21 days if the fish can be moved to a sterile tank for 48 hours before moving to the DT.

I think you can resolve this by modifying your foods/feeding of this fish; feed high protein, high fat foods, with less vegetable matter (for now). Feed multiple times a day, as much as the fish will eat, then stop adding food. Do this 3 to 4 times a day.

Ok, I’m feeding a good variety, mysis, pellets, flakes, formula 1 and nori. He did just finally come out and eat since I posted this. Maybe he’s just slow to get around today.

Inadequate diet. Add foods such as:
LRS Herbivore diet
plankton
Frozen veggie diet
Formula 2 frozen

My 5lb hippo might say otherwise. (Over exaggeration but he is huge)

I’ll pick up some more though.

Thanks
