So i recently added my first 2 coral to my tank, 1 acan and 1 gsp (gsp still has not opened but is still purple) today i dropped a few food pellets onto my acan and it opened right up and is steadily getting fatter so i think it was just hungry. my question is what should i be adding to my tank to keep my corals happy and healthy, i just got seachem reef plus, i have the seachem reef buffer to raise ph to 8.3 and i feed seachems reef zoo plankton (can you tell my local brand? lol) i would appreciate any kind of info on what else i may need to grab and even links to sites to get them if possible. i know i need a 2 part reef mix but have no idea what a good brand or site to get it would be. Ive also heard a lot about "reef Roids" and im not sure what they do or if i should be looking into them lol, literally any information on any part of what to dose and how to dose it is very much appreciated thank you.

I would avoid the reef buffer without testing your alkalinity. That raises alk off the charts to maintain pH.

Some folks have had success using RedSea AB+. Others use reef roids. Some don’t even feed corals and just the fish.

What needs to be done is to test water regularly for alk, cal, po4 and no3. That is the only way to monitor if your corals are healthy and happy.

You’ll need additives and dosing one day. But having only two corals won’t make a huge impact to the nutrients and parameters.

Yeah I’ve stayed away from dosing any of the reef buffer as of now, I only really got it as a precaution for right now

Don’t directly feed GSP. They have no feeding response.

With just one acan I’d stick with pellets as they are easier to deploy without fouling water.

Beware of additives, they are usually hard on nutrient control.

Sounds good. Just do water changes and feed your LPS as needed. Dont worry about dosing for now. You’ll know when it’s time to dose when you’re seeing your parameters dip overnight and water changes can’t keep up.

But for now, learn to make it a routine to test your parameters regularly. At least weekly.

ok that seems pretty easy, how often should i be feeding pellets to the acan? just twice a week?
