Hello, I need some answers please. I setup a fluval 13.5 evo with live rock live sand and a bottle of dr Tim’s 5 weeks ago but I think I left the live rock in the open air for too long while setting up aqua scape and had some coraline algae die off chipping off and floating. My question is, does the dying coraline algae create ammonia? Now I’m experiencing a bacterial bloom that’s been going for more then a week. Not sure what I should do to get rid of the bacterial bloom. I can deal with the small amount of coraline dying but this bacterial bloom sucks. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The dying coraline might be due to the fact that the tank is new and not very stable yet. As far as I know, coraline will not release any po4 or no3 into the water, and if it does, it would be insignificant. Your tank is still very new, so do not worry, coraline will cover your rocks eventually.

As for the bacterial bloom, a WC might help out with that.

I have a 2 year old tank which is having coralline algae die off in spots with no signs of po4 , no3 or nh3 being released. I have been frequently test all three along with alk, cal and Meg. Trying to find out the cause of the die off. None of mine was exposed to air during water change. And all my numbers are staying in recommended ranges. Corals and I invertebrates are all growing and Alive. I’m stumped
