Hi all. So I have just started a fresh tank with dry rock and have taken some scrapings from my old live rock as pictured below.

What is the best method of getting this into the tank to hopefully start of a coralline outbreak lol? I have seen something about crushing/blending it and mixing with kalkwaser, but what would people on here do?

I look forward to hearing your ideas.

Add it to a blender with tank water. Poor into the tank. . . I've never had to do this in a new setup if I used some rock for a established tank. Usually takes off with in a month or two on its own.

cheers. Unfortunately my old rock was saturated with Phosphates and Nitrates that leached out in every tank I've put it in so was time to start again.

I don't have a blender, do you think crushing up with a pestle and mortar would work?

If the system doesn't have the chemistry values, and lighting to support the development and growth of Corilline it's a mote point.
It does have the chemistry and definitely has the lighting but absolutely no trace of any CA to seed from so need to start it somehow rather than wait 6 months and hope I buy a snail with a bit on. Especially as I have an old rock full of the stuff (but don't want to put the rock on as it has other nasties on it, hence the scrapings and request for advice)

Then go for it. :-) It's been my experience that corailline establishes sooner under lower lighting.

Certainly will. Pour it into the return flow to blow them spores around the tank. make sure you alk is ready for the growth spurt uptake.

Are you in the Secret Santa pool this year? You need to get a blender for yourself as much as the reef.

If the other nasties in your tank include Aiptasia I wonder if a small piece of foot will reseed them also?

I do want to go for it, but wanted advice on the best way to introduce it to the tank, ie just scatter the scrappings, blend it with tank water or another liquid, etc.
