I'm curious about this product, and have found virtually no reviews on it.

When using as described, does it suggest no water changes be made (like the full blown triton method)?

Of course there would have to be alternate means of nutrient export.

I don't have room for a large (10_20% total water volume) refugium in my sump (running a red Sea reefer), so I employ alternate means of exporting nutrients (zeovit method).

Would this product be compatible? I use a ghl doser 2.1 so it would be an easy set up.

Cheers!

Hi

When using the Core7 Reef Supplements we do not advise no water changes. As you say you need to use your own method of nutrient and more importantly toxin control. We recommend that if you do want to achieve a no water change system then you should carry out regular ICP testing to keep an eye out for accumulating elements, that way at least reducing unnecessary water changes.

I appreciate the quick response.

When you refer to toxin control, what sort of toxins are you referring to specifically?

Are these toxins eliminated via the refugium as per the full triton method? Or are these toxins introduced when other methods of nutrient export are implemented (zeolites)?

In theory, a tank could run with no water changes on the core 7 reef elements if no unwanted toxins accumulate and no3/po4 exports are achieved?

I'm just trying to understand the design of the core7 reef elements, and what they aim to achieve specifically. What would be an ideal tank layout that would run them successfully? I'd be a little confused if I'm trying to maintain stable parameters as per the reef elements, yet have to conduct water changes which would ultimately throw off the balance.

Toxins refer to unwanted elements such as heavy metals, these can come from a number of sources, as contaminants with other products, equipment breakdown, corrosion of metals near the water. We can remove most of these with good practices and using only pure uncontaminated products however some if some get through then we can rely on in the case of the Triton Method the algae refugium along with PO4 media, Activated carbon, Detox if required. So in your case you need to find a method to deal with these unwanted elements should they arrive, that could be implementing Activated Carbon and PO4 media and the occasional water change when required. As for the water changes throwing off balance that effect can be reduced by using a salt mix that closely matches the parameters you are trying to maintain, for the Triton Method we recommend Tropic Marin Pro as it closely matches our set points.

So "we do not advise no water changes..." is a little confusing. Water change or no water change? I just started using Core 7 two weeks ago. I have a lot of cyano and it's getting worse. Just installed a more powerful sump Light this week. Tank is looking worse....I don't think it's necessarily triton though. I had started feeding more because I was reading how corals need food. Need to test nitrate and phosphate tomorrow am. Thanks for your response.

The WC no WC depends on what version of Core7 you are running.

Core7 Base Elements running the Triton Method, there is no need for routine water changes.

Core7 Reef Supplements running another method totally depends on what you are doing, if your method of nutrient and toxin removal is good enough then you may not need routine water changes. Regular ICP testing will tell you if you need to do them.
