Hello again so I’m still thinking about a repair option. I’m waiting to hear back from a company about replacing the back panel entirely. But I was thinking typically when people have a crack they use another piece of glass over the crack and silicon it down. Since my crack is in the corner bottom I really can’t do that but what if I got a thick piece of glass cut to reinforce that corner and silicone it in place? It would have to be a piece thick enough to be in front of the crack and all the way up. It wouldn’t look the best but I think it could work because I don’t see any risk of the crack spreading it’s more of a Chip. Like I can remove the damage it’s just hanging onto the silicone.

When I first looked at your thread I thought that the second pic had a crack running away from that corner. Is that just a reflection? If the damage is only on that corner and has already broken all the way through you may well be able to get away with cutting away the bead on the inside and "armoring" that corner with additional glass. I'd still opt for a panel replacement, if possible. Again, this is predicated upon the breakage being limited to JUST the corner with no cracks running away from it. Good luck, amigo

It you purchased the Reefer with a credit card you might be covered by the card's buyer's protection plan.

Another thought would be to keep looking at the R2R's seller's forum as someone in your area might be selling a Reefer 350.

Great thought on Credit Card protection... never even occurred to me!

If purchased with a credit card the OP needs to do his homework and read the fine print regarding the coverage before calling. After times there are exclusions and if you don't state your claim properly you will be rejected.

Maybe they will want to help someone since they are getting a crap ton If bad press right now. Tell them you also have a 750xxl and you “don’t want to talk about that” but if they fix your 350 you will be happy!
Sorry I have a 250 and I would prob try and use it in your shoes. Sometimes I don’t make the best decisions though

I paid cash but they I see how in the photo it looks to be a running crack but it’s not. It’s more of a chip to the surface and it’s just hanging onto the silicon. Maybe I will try to get more pictures today. Also yes I’m going to try to figure out how much they would charge first to get that whole back piece replaced also I’ll call red sea before I do anything to the tank. Even if they offered me a discount on the glass if I gave them back the old glass I would do it. Just trying to weigh my options.

Did you buy it from a store, new? Maybe it was there and you didn't see it?

I bought my Red Sea 525 last December and while moving into my house one of the guys tripped and we dropped the tank. It cracked on the bottom and the side. The tank was ruined. My insurance deductible was higher than the cost of a replacement tank. I called Red Sea and told them what happened and they sold me a replacement tank at a reduced rate. So I would contact Red Sea.

Someone recommended that I replace the back glass myself but I really don’t feel comfortable doing that. I’m not the most handy person....

It sounds much more difficult than it is. Proper surface preparation is the key.

Where are you located. If you're near NY, I'll help you replace the broken piece.

Do you mind posting more close up pics of the actual damage? I think i may have a solution for you

You know what you might be able to do, you can get a flat pice of glass about 1/3 the sixe of the bottom of the glass and maybe silicone it so the bottom, side back and fromt of the glass are all silcined together. The glass silvoned to it should act like a brace. If im honest its just an idea but im still not certain this would work. You are actually better off asking a tank builder for advice on this. They might be able to assist you further on whats best way to go about this

Well if anyone wants the tank for a garage frag tank or something feel free to message me. Also I’m selling the tank on the selling forum. My last effort is to contact Red Sea tomorrow after that I’m planing to just buy new glass. I will update everyone once I hear from Red Sea.

I still don't feel like it's a big deal. It's a chip. Put in in the garage, fill it and watch it for a month.

I don’t either I think it will hold water as is just fine but at the end of the day I’m going to keep this tank for a long time and I want peace of mind that I’m not going to come home to a flooded apartment.
