Good evening everyone. I noticed that a small cabbage coral frag I had wasn’t doing very well. The only thing that had changed recently was the addition of a crown leather coral placed nearby. I checked at night and tentacles from the crown leather were all over the cabbage. Do lobophytum corals typically have sweepers?

I took a few different photos but the tentacle s coming off move so much in the current that only one came out. It doesn’t show in the photo but there are two tentacles that come out of roughly the same spot. They are about 7 inches long, clear, and have multiple branches coming off the same side. I know the picture doesn’t really do it justice. I’ll try and take another tonight.

You might be seeing a Comb Jellyfish, Ctenophore.

I have had Ctenophore a number of times on Sacrophyton and Sinularia.

As far as I'm aware they don't have sweepers. To me that looks more like the thread of a vermatid or similar worm
I thought the same thing. They come out every night. It appears that they are coming directly out of the crown of the coral at the edge in the same place every time. I have looked with polyps in and polyps extended and I can’t see anything on the coral, definitely not a vermetid snail tube.

These have been in the same place for at least a week without moving. I’ll try and move the coral to get a better view tonight. Try and make sure the tentacles are not coming from somewhere else and wrapping around. These pictures are the best I could get last night. Maybe I’ll try stopping the flow to get a better view.

It's a Comb Jelly trust me.

They really don't change positions. During the day you really can't see them. Hitch hiking in on Sacrophyton/Toadstool is what they do. The Ctenophore will likely stay on that coral feeding on suspended particles at night.

I just checked again, I don’t see anything on the coral where the tentacles looked like they were coming out. I did find what looked like a small vermetid tube at the base of the coral and crushed it. Later tonight I’ll check to see if the tentacles are out and double check where they are coming from. Thanks for all of the help everyone.

Quick update: Tonight I was able to see it from a different angle after turning it for a better look. The blue circled area has a patch of discoloration. I also noticed that there was no polyp extension from that spot. And the tentacles are definitely coming from that area. Again, the pictures are terrible. Witouth the flow of they can’t really be seen, but with the flow on they really whip around like fly fishing mentioned in the other thread.

Is it ok to remove the comb jelly? Should I remove it or leave it? Peel it off with forceps? It did seem to be bothering the cabbage coral and like I said the crown coral has an area where the polyps can’t extend. Other than that it seems healthy. Again, I really appreciate all the help. This forum is awesome for newbs like me.
