Started a new journey with the new tank arriving today! Very excited about this build, however it would not have been possible without Dan the Man from Shipwreck Cove Corals and the amazing guys at Crystal Dynamics (Formerly Leemar). Plan on a SPS dominated tank! So now lets get to the specs and equipment list.

  • Tank: Crystal Dynamics Rimless 60"x 32"x 22" - Three Panel Starfire and Eurobraced
  • Sump: Crystal Dynamics Acrylic 40" x 20"x 18" - Hose and Probe Holders, Adj. water level\
  • Stand: Crystal Dynamics Aluminum 60" x 32" 40" - Powder coated
  • Light: 48" Sfiligoi Stealth 12 Bulb T5 - 6x ATI Blue+, 4x ATI Coral+, 2x ATI Purple+
  • Skimmer: LifeReef VS3-36 - 36", Ran by a Jecod DC12000
  • Return: Jecod DC 15000
  • Water Movement: 2x Maxspect Gyre-150XF
  • Media: 2x Marine Pure 8x8x4 Blocks, GEO UMC 10 for GFO, Carbon in Media Bag
  • Reactor: MTC Pro-Cal Calcium Reactor w/ Aquarium Plants Regulator, MasterFlex Brushless feed pump, and 20lb CO2 Tank.
  • Controller: Neptune Apex Controller - 2x PH Probe, 2x Temp Probe, 1x Salinity Probe, PM2 Network Adapter
  • ATO: JBJ ATO Controller with Aqualifter
  • Misc: Algae Free HammerHead, All Sched 80 PVC, Clear Screen Cover
  • AquaScape: Very Coarse Gravel and 100+ Lbs. of Tonga
  • Fish: Tank will be primarily Wrasses, Cirrhilabrus family. Along with other fish such as Tangs, FoxFace, and a school of Large Chromis.
Pictures will follow.

Unbelievable packing. The crating was brand new construction with inch thick plywood.

Been awhile! After we put this tank up we realized we had a problem with the location of the exit and returns on the tank due to a factory error. Company asked no questions and built me a new tank which is now on the stand and is ready to start getting plumbed. In the mean time I have been trying to do my Tonga aquascape which is a lot harder than I thought it would be. I also decided now is the best time if there was ever one to get my dream light fixture a Giesemann Spectra. I will be doing the 48" 4x54w 2x250w with Radiums on Luxcore ballast and ATI T5's. Hopefully this weekend time permitting I can get this baby moving some water!

Some teaser pics.

Looks off you're off to a great start. I especially like the dimensions and layout of the system. I look forward to watching the tank mature. I'm especially interested in the gravel. I siphon my sand monthly and thought about using gravel to make maintenance easier but was always worried about the gravel growing coralline algae.

Good luck and please keep this thread updated! :D

Thanks for posts guys! More pictures this weekend once electronics get setup. Finally switching to an Apex comes with a steep learning curve!

Love the details and the rock work! Definitely tagging along.
Where did you get that coarse gravel? Did you link the Gyre 150's to the Coralvue control boxes for the Apex? If so how are you liking it? Thx

Thanks man!
I got my tank from Crystal dynamics as well, couldn't be more pleased with the work and price.

Believe it or not it is PETCO brand gravel if you get the bags shipped to you they are 99% dust free bags essentially. 8.99 a 20lb bag! Very easy to clean, and if tank is well kept it stays bleach white. So I went with it for this build as well. I have been told Santa will be getting me the control boxes for Christmas!.
