Hey everyone. I am just days away from finishing my last round of Prazi on my wrasse. Next I was going to start cupramine and to be honest, I am kind of hesitant after all the posts of wrasses not making out of copper treatments.

My plan was to take 5 days to get up to .35-.4 with dosages on day 1,3, and 5.

Thoughts on not treating with copper? I can't do TTM

Fish has been very active and eating like a champ. I have been feeding him 2 to 3 times a day with selcon soaked food. I started prazi only after he was in the tank a week and eating well, so I know he very healthy at this point.

Thanks for your input.

Wrasses are very parasite resistant (due to their thick mucous coat), but ich can harbor inside the gills. You should still notice behavioral symptoms, however; such as heavy breathing, scratching, flashing, head twitching, etc. But wrasses dart around so much that it can be difficult to notice things like head twitching with them. :(

If I were in your shoes and copper was my only option, I would treat with a chelated product such as Coppersafe over Cupramine.

and what test kits again are used for those? I already purchased cupramine and the correct test kit for it.

For Coppersafe you would need the API test kit; because the therapeutic range is much higher (1.5 - 2.0 ppm).

Copper power is 2.5 if I remember correctly.

^^This. I know some folks who report great success using Copper Power. It's strange. It seems like the higher the therapeutic level, the more successful (and gentler) the copper product is.

Then, out of curiosity, why is Cupramine much more popular? I've used both successfully, only been successful using Copper Power on wrasses.

Clever marketing techniques. When Cupramine first came out, it was advertised as being so much "safer" than chelated copper (Coppersafe) because the therapeutic range is much lower. However, there's something about ionic copper that just doesn't seem to gel with certain fish. o_O

IME coppersafe is more effective. I don't know if it's safer, but I've had better luck overall with coppersafe and wrasse seem to handle it better than cupramine.

I know your first choice is either CP or TTM which way do you tend to lean when using copper? Coppersafe? How does that compare to Copper Power?

Both are chelated copper I believe. I've never used copper power but I've had good luck with coppersafe.

I've never used Copper Power, but some people I know do and report great success. However, I would choose Coppersafe because a) I've used that product in the past with good success b) A LFS I advise is using Coppersafe on all incoming fish with good success.

^^^ Ditto. We use Coppersafe at the LFS I work at with great success. I've never used it at home, but TTM works well for me.

So I noticed that copper power does day 2.5, but the API kit only has 2 and then the next highest is 4. So how do I verify I'm at 2.5?

Just get it slightly north of 2.0 and you are good to go. ;)

That's the same reason I dropped the money on the Hannah kit. I had a decent amount of fish at stake so it justified the cost for me. I also knew I'd be using it in the future with future fish. It eliminated the guessing game for me.
